nate31891: After 8 LONG days of cursing up a storm, pulling my hair out, and plain getting aggravated I finally have a solution!

For those having the freeze issue, DON'T USE NEOEE!

If you did, uninstall EE and AOC.

Reinstall clean without NEOEE.

go and get the 3d analyzer here. (Copy/Paste links, GOG wont let me post them)

3dfxzone.it/dir/tools/3d_analyze/download/ (find Size: 874KB Status: Not Archived and click the "save" icon).

Install it, run it as admin AND win 7 compatibility.

Select EE-AOC.exe or EE.exe and click on the little white box that is next to force max. Pixel shader version 1.1.

Save this setup as a batch file.

Run the exe in 3d Analyzer, and it works perfectly fine.

For reuse, run the batch file you saved. Otherwise, the exe will freeze.

Im running the game without V-sync. Also don't change the primary driver option. It will CTD.

The game will automatically choose it after you start it the second time.

How do you install without noee?

Gallienus: Just solved the same issue under Windows 10 using the GOG version of Empire Earth Gold. Playing EE-AOC. I selected the other graphics option AND I disabled all the ambient lighting/special effects & etc and it ran for 2 hrs w/o/ any problem.

Even tho the hardware chars of my new MSI Ghost 60 laptop well exceed the old game requirements, there's one of the special effect graphics that Windows 10 has problems with.
Where are you finding ambient lighting and the other options tab?

Aidinthel: For me, fixing this problem required both nate31891's fix and AlfalfaMale75's suggestion of switching 3D acceleration.
Where is alfalfamales post? What was his suggestion.

What were the options which you selected to change the graphics and disable the extra's?
was it "reduced color mode" and "disable displat scaling on high DPI settings"?

Cheers mate
Hello,

i had the same problem till today.

I found out that Windows runs this .exe in Compatibility Mode. As soon as i turned the comp mode off the game run fine.

1. Open the Game directory.
2. Open the properties of the ee.exe or ee-aoc.exe
3. Remove the tick at run in comp mode. ( You may have to cahnge settings for all users first befor you can edit it)
4. have Fun :D

i hope this is helps out.

Sliceafreak: So I've been trying to get Empire Earth Gold Edition to work with Windows 10 for a bit now. I use Windows 10 x64.

Every time I start the game, it will lock up after about two minutes. It does this on the menus, on the actual matches, honestly doesn't matter where I am. I was able to switch the video settings around a bit at one point, but it still didn't help. I also tried different compatibility modes with no luck.

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck playing Empire Earth Gold Edition on Windows 10 at all, and what you guys did to fix it.
I solved this issue this way:

Go to game folder, right click the Empire Earth.exe, properties, compatibility, select the Windows 8.

If you are not able to do this, click change configurations of all users, run program with Windows 8 and check run with administration.

Everything is working now, I hope this helps.

Thanks, this is the fix that works!
To add some extra information. The best possible resolution to play this game on a 1080P monitor is 1280x960.
Because that's like the highest possible 4:3 ratio resolution, while maintaining a good zoom distance.

ZeonCobra: I've been having the same freezing problem. But I was able to fix it by right clicking and going into properties, then going to the compatibility tab and switching it to Windows 8 and the game ran fine. But I'm also having problems with Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest. When I try to open the game, it within seconds it stops responding. Does anyone have a solution? I'll really appreciate it.
^^^ Changing compatibility mode to Windows 8 (running Windows 10) fixed my Empire Earth. Thanks!

What I did was these 2 methods:

Method 1. Updating all device drivers to the newest

According to users, random computer freezing usually appears after Windows 10 update. And the reason might be incompatibility of hardware and drivers. To correct it, just update all device drivers.

1) Click Start menu and click Settings tab.
2) Click Update & security.
3) Select Windows Update in the left pane and click Check for updates (make sure you have an active Internet connection).

Method 2. Flash your SSD

If you have Windows 10 installed on your SSD, you might experience random freezing on your computer due to older firmware. To fix it, just install the newest firmware on your SSD.

1) Open your advanced power plan settings.
2) Expand open Hard disk and Turn off hard disk after, SET TO NEVER, and click/tap on OK.

You can refer here if these methods don't work for you. Even this Microsoft answer will help you out.

EVERYBODY! just switch compatibility to WINDOWS 8 it worked for me :-)
I can't believe this.

Switching compatibility mode to Windows 8 really worked for EE and AoC. I was having immediate crashes and freezes before that.

After that (when I got to the game settings) I also switched video card from primary card to my computer's AMD Radeon and 3D acceleration to 3D Hardware TnL.

(AoC crashed after I changed the game settings, but started working after that perfectly)
Since I have not found this solution anywhere else: For me the freezing only occurred when I used GOG Galaxy to download EE. As soon as I installed it using the Offline Installer instead, it worked flawlessly. I am not sure whether this has to do with how GOG Galaxy handles administrator rights, differing versions on the Offline and Galaxy installation or something else. Either way, after that, it worked without any additional patches whatsoever, which is why I would recommend attempting this before doing anything else.
