I've been playing the original for quite a while now, and have been thinking about trying out the sequels. The thing holding me back has been all the negative criticism of both games. So I ask, is it worth it to get the other two? Or would it me a waste of money?
I bought EE2 purely because of my love for the first one, which was a big mistake. EE2 feels like a completely different game. Honestly, I think I would've enjoyed it more if it wasn't called Empire Earth, since then I wouldn't have gone into it expecting more of what I thought made the first one great, which I was constantly reminded of wasn't there.
My brother really enjoyed EE2. I haven't met anyone who liked EE3.

P.S. My whole family went on to Rise of Nations. It's a lot like EE, but it fixes gameplay issues (like micromanaging absolutely everything).

That's a hard question to answer really. I have sunk many weekends muti playing the first one. So brought the 2nd one, it plays completely different. Basically everything about it is different. You can't compare it to the first one since it's so different. But personally the 2nd one is fun within it's own right, but you have to expect a different game. It's not like Age of Empires were all 3 were basically the same.

Then the 3rd.. I brought it when it came out. I played it once or twice. It's been so long I forgot mostly the whole thing, besides the point I never picked it back up again. The problem again they completely changed the game. Which is why most people love the first the most.

So for me who loved the first but not the others, it's hard to say if you loved the first that you be the same. I would say try the 2nd one. In some ways it is better, like you can't just put 50 billion towers around your whole base. The whole map is broken up into areas, each area can hold so many towers etc.

The 3rd.. yeah if you see it on sale. I plan to get it if it ever goes on sale just for the sake of having all 3. But I don't see myself ever playing it again.
I like the 2nd one, but yes it's a complete different game, think 3d rise of nations over a broader time period. The 3rd one have have not played but from what I heard of it I never will.

I played the 1st one when it first came out and the 2nd one as well. I think there were significant changes to EE2, but not a "completely" different game, but some major changes, kind of like the evolution of Civiliation. Major changes, but not enough for me to call it a compleatly different game. That being said, I liked EE 1 much better. I was disapointed when I first got EE 2, but it grew on me as I played it, and I did end up liking it in its own right. EE 3 I I can't remember if I played a demo, or someone elses copy but I do remember thinking "NO SIR, not for me..." and never got the 3rd EE
I like EE2 the most (I've tried EE1, EE3 but didn't really like them).
EE2 is a very advanced game, it's not as easy as EE3 (for example it has 9 resource types, while EE3 has just 1...).
EE2 looks the most realistic from the whole EE serie. EE1 is too ugly in my opinion (I know many of you will say "it's not important, gameplay is the most important", but well... if you haven't played EE1 before EE2 - you'll love EE2 more. If you've played EE1 before EE2 - you'll love EE1 more.
