The game runs pretty well on my desktop (the terrain seems to flicker randomly, but it's endurable), but it doesn't launch at all on my little netbook. It runs the intro cinematic great, but when it's supposed to load the main menu, I hear a little error chime and I get the error message I've attached. Something about "Memory Could Not Be 'Read'."

-Acer Aspire One
-Windows XP 2002 (Service Pack 3)
-1 GB RAM
-Mobile Intel Chipset Family 945
-Direct X10

I've heard this is a problem with the game trying to run at a certain resolution, but since it's not allowed on the netbook, it just crashes. I've been scouring the net for a solution and I've still not found one. Any ideas would be appreciated, or if someone could let me know if it's a lost cause, that'd be great, too.

I would also be very interested in the outcome of this. My desktop has a tiny (~35Gb) hard drive which is mostly full of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion at the moment. I would presume that Empire Earth would run fine on my Samsung N120 netbook but now I'm not so sure...
go into the .ini file and change the resolution

Sorry, would you be able to elaborate on that? I'm not finding any files with that extension.
Just to be sure it's not a direct x issue, can you please double check your Direct X version?

Direct X 10 can't run on Windows XP. It requires Vista or 7.
I get this message as well. I´m running on a Acer Aspire One too.

It occurs after the presentation video. When it finishes or if I click to skip it, the game crashes. First, appears the message in the first attached screen. When I hit the ok button, the second error message appears.

The second message is in Portuguese, but I think that´s clear for anyone that some instruction made reference for some memory that could not be read.

I´m on XP SP3, Direct X 9c.
Atom N270, 1,6Ghz
2GB RAM
Intel 950 GMA

I know that´s a very low end config, but for an old game like praetorians should not be a problem.

Any thoughts, help or comments? It´ll be very appreciated.

I come here again to say that I´m able to solve the problem.

The problem is that the initial screen of the game needs a resolution of at least 1024x768 to runs. As the Acer Asipre One has a screen with 1024x600, the game crashes.

Just google it for and app named AsTray Plus for EEPC. Running this it goes to you notification area and right clicking on it you can change your screen res. Change it to 1024x768.

Now the game runs properly, with every setting maxed, also.

To go back to your regular screen res, close astray and go to your screen settings > advanced and slide it back to 1024x600.
