It has been a long while since I played Empire Earth, I had the original discs a long time ago, but lost them, so I thought since it was cheap I would get it on GOG.

I loved playing random map games back in the day, so that is what I started with.

When I start a random map, it automatically reveals the map and says I and all the other players have been defeated. The only thing I can play on this game is the "historical" campaigns, which I just don't feel like playing at the moment.

I've looked all over this forum and the Net, and can't find a single forum that has helped somebody out that has this random map problem.

Is this some kind of problem that isn't fixable or do people just not care anymore?

Please help.

I assume you create some sort of custom game. Try fiddling with the victory conditions?

Basically each time, I went into the random map option, and set it to:

Me against one computer player.
Standard game.
Medium map.
Continental
Standard speed.
Lock speed.
Start at Prehistoric with the ability to advance all the way to the Nano age.
Max unit limit.
The choice with the highest resources.
No victory by wonders.
Custom civilizations enabled
Disabled cheat codes.
Map not revealed.

I think that about covers it. I took your advice and changed all the conditions around and whatnot, but after about 20 variations with no success, I've decided there is something extremely wrong in that no random map with any variable will work.

I have found that I can still create my own scenario with the scenario editor and play that, but it is a time consuming hassle to create a new scenario with different conditions and new map types every single time I want to play a non-campaign game.

The only other info I can give is that, when a random map loads, and it reveals the whole map because everybody gets "defeated", it shows that the random map didn't generate in the first place.

Like with the continental choice I made. What it generated was a map with nothing in or on it except a giant perfect square of land with water surrounding it on all sides.

It does similar with the other map style choices.
Plains is just a flat solid piece of land with nothing on it.
The island types no matter the size small or large island, it generates a vast ocean with just a single solitary island in the center of the map.
With highlands it creates a map with a giant perfect square of mountains in the center with a border of flat plains around it.

Hopefully there is a solution because I've seen quite a few people with this problem in my search across the Net, but nobody ever seems to answer them. I hope that it doesn't mean there is no solution.

That is really weird. I'd reinstall and see if that fixes it. Guessing it wont. Perhaps copy the game folder to another pc and see what happens?
Hello,

Ehh, same here, can't play random map :(

I didn't have this problem at first, but now I do. It's so frustrating. This really needs to be fixed as soon as possible.
Had a problem like this 'way back when. Have you made sure that your system's decimal symbol, under Region in Windows, is set to "."?
Heh, old topic but that decimal symbol change really helps! Thanks a lot.
Changing the decimal symbol fixed it for me as well! Very old topic, but still, thanks!
I have the same problem, can someone please make this a bit easier to understand? The decimal thing is ingame or in the game folders?

In the operating system, which probably is Windows in your case. A comma is used in Swedish but a full stop is used in English.

Full stop = punkt på svensk
