Empire Earth is a game with that classic feel of old school RTS. Released in 2001, this game allows you to control 23 factions over 500,000 years of human history, spanning from the Stone Age to the sleek Space Age.
With the overview out of the way, here's a list of Pros and Cons:
Pros:
-Fun, real-time gameplay (good ol' clasic formula)
-Addition of interesting features, such as technologies and heroes
-7 fun campaigns
-Variety of Civilisations
-Excellent map editor
-3D Engine
Cons:
-Outdated aspects of gameplay
-Unoriginal (mostly inspired from Age of Empires 2)
-Actually little to no advance in terms of resource gathering and technology
-Only small differences between factions
Over the years, Empire Earth has been left out of the spotlight and dubbed an "Age of Empires" clone. However, these same people don't consider that "Rise of Nations" arguably drew its core ideas from Empire Earth. The epic scope will simply leave you amazed-no joke, this game was sooo big in 2001. Literally and in ideas. Depending on your opinion, the gameplay in Empire Earth will either be old, or completely new. Following in the footsteps of AOE, you create a unit, slect and right click. Each unit has certain attributes which can be an advantage or disadvantage. Technology and buildings, however, play a more important part than in other RTSs, as they are the main components required for your civilisation to advance an epoch.
There is no complicated way to tell you, so i'll just spit it outt; Empire Earth's gameply is simple but fun
Aside from the core mechanics, there is hardly any difference between units unique to civilisations. Much like Rise of Nations, these unique units may boast better HP, but aside from that and the unique look, there's a limited amount of diversity.
However, the same cannot be said about the campaigns, which are just a thrill to play through.
In terms of graphics, the game is modest. Personally, the 3D engine compliments the game, but let me just say that if you want realistic graphics, I suggest you go outside!
Another boon of the game is the level editor. This game, if any, got me started on level editing. The editor is so easy to use (with a little help from the manual), in the sense that the things that are the most complicated, e.g. cinematics, events, are really simplified in this editor. Or if you're just looking to wreak some havoc, it's great for that too!!
All in all, Empire Earth is a good game, however, the play style and graphics may not appeal to gamers in 2009. Despote this, I highly recommend this game to people who still enjoy the classic formula with a big slice of EPIC added to it!
