Hello, I was playing Open play and I got some iron ore laying around. Only problem is that I can't build iron ore smelters because I started in Bronze Age.

Can you advance in age or are you permanently stuck in one age when you're playing Open play? Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, I think sandbox games are limited to whichever age you specified at the beginning. The game engine apparently wasn't designed to allow mid-game advancement à la Age of Empires.
