I've played this game in the original form for thousands of hours(and also modded with Hyperion) back in the day. I was excited to see this on GOG, until I actually played it. I've restarted about 8 or 9 times and each time, the church starts banning technologies left and right. I mean, almost every turn, and also some of the most basic techs. Just this last attempt to play, it literally banned a starting tech at the top of the tech tree. By turn 10 or so, I'm already having the church sending ships/troops to burn my labs. This has to be a glitch. Right?

The difficulty level of each house affects how much the church proscribes techs. I don't know what the difficulty level of each house in your game is, but that is likely causing it.

If you would like to play without too much interference from the church, you can set all houses to beginner. As the total difficulty level of all the houses goes up, the frequency of tech banning will also go up. It will still happen if all houses are on beginner, but way way less frequently.

That being said, there is actually a known issue that will be fixed in the next version, where if you have a current game being played, then you restart the game using File > Restart, then the new game will have the Tech's Like values of the old game. That means if you play a game with all houses on ridiculous for a while, see all the techs being proscribed that you should normally see on ridiculous, then you do File > Restart and set all the houses to beginner, you'll still get a bunch of techs proscribed. If this is what's happening to you, please entirely close down the game, then open the game up and start a fresh game with beginner difficulty across all houses (or easy if you prefer).

Thank you. That was the problem. I had all on the highest setting(including me).

Good grief! Why would anyone write a review trashing something for some stupid personal problem they were having?

You are right. Thank you for pointing this out to me. Unfortunately Gog doesn't allow us to edit or delete our revies. I have opened a support ticket and asked for the review to be deleted. Once it is deleted, I'll write a new one. Again, thank you for pointing this out to me.

Well, it wasn't quite obvious that I was having a "stupid personal problem." Evidently you have a stupid, personal problem such as being a low I.Q., low information, piece of shit, and Gog can ban me for this post, and YOU are most welcome to come visit me in person and try being a jackass to me to my face. You won't do it a second time. Guaranteed.

Man, before you set about hurting someone's business, you ought to double-check if the thing you are complaining about is your own problem. The makers of this game and the fans of this game are happy to help you work through your issues so you can enjoy the same gaming experience that we enjoy. Don't be a Karen.

From 1998 to 2003, I was in a wheelchair and literally logged several thousand hours in this game. Never once did I see the church proscribe one of the three starting techs. Once in this new edition, all three were proscribed by turn 5. There was absolutely no reason for me to think the problem was user error.

With that said, "karen," if you keep feeling the need to be a keyboard warrior and act like a jackass, then be a man and come do it to my face. Until then, go fuck yourself. The world would be a much better place if everyone like you had a bullet put between their eyes. Not even man enough to bully someone face to face. So fucking pathetic.

You are butt-hurt because someone said something bad about your favorite game, so you come into this civil conversation and make an insulting, inflammatory comment that was neither helpful, productive, nor relevant to the topic. That is the very definition of a "karen."

Now you claim that people here are happy to help someone work through their issues. You haven't exactly provided a good example of that, seeing as how YOU are the one that turned a civil discourse into a toxic environment.

On that note, I will remove myself from these forums, instead of waiting for the moderators to ban me. If your presence here is an example of how these forums are moderated, then I have no desire to be part of this toxic environment.

Once again, I will extend you an invitation to come try this shit to my face. Find yourself in New Orleans, just message me. I'll give you a lesson in how to treat other people and let you think long and hard about it from a hospital bed.

I did not "help" for two very good reasons: 1) You had already received your solution before I came to this thread, and 2) I did not have a clue what might be causing your problem since I had never encountered it.

Dunno why you keep talking about getting banned. Does that happen to you sometimes?
Please guys, let's keep this to civil level, without offenses, thanks.
