I just finished G2 and G1 (using the D3d11 mod) and thoroughly enjoyed both--much moreso than I did when I originally played both games when they initially shipped. Took about a decade to get these games right, finally, no credit to PB at all, sad to say. Mods and Community patches brought both games up to par, finally--most fun I've ever had with them. But I note that these were PC-only games, too.

Sort of afraid this is just a console port for the PC, in which case that would be too bad, indeed. Comments? Observations?
So far ELEX seems to me to be Gothic 1 on steroids (a LOT of steroids). There are three main factions: warriors, mages, stoners - same as Gothic.. only here warriors can also use magic, the mages are all about tech and the stoners make drugs their main mechanic.

Combat is more about tactical positioning and the smart use of your abilites than twich based.. but it has the same weakness as Gothic. Unless you level up your abilities and damage, you're unable to touch higher level enemies, no matter how good you are at dodging and chaining etc...

Movement is.. quirky, it takes a bit to get used to

All in all, I can say that the game is worth it's price and you won't be finising it quickly, and that is without counting multiple playtroughs.
I'm only a few hours in, but love it already. The Gothic/Risen-feeling was there within seconds after starting the game when I picked up the first herbs in the start area. Then before even entering the first building, there was a little hidden pathway to a piece of armor. It encourages exploration. Great.

When I was wandering around in Goliet, suddenly status messages were popping up: 1 of 5, 2 of 5, ... 5 of 5. Quest completed. On the edge of the screen I saw that some NPCs had killed a bunch of evil rats by themselves without my involvement and without me even knowing that was a quest. lol :-) Thanks for the 800XP, guys ;-) PB games are always about exploiting the little bugs and quirks, too. That is part of the fun.

- Melee combat takes a bit practice, but is definitely more tactical and challenging than the button-mashing in Risen 2 and 3
- Performance is rather underwhelming. My laptop is not the best, but Witcher 3 runs more smoothly while looking better
- GUI could be better. Health bar and quick bar too big and obtrusive. Inventory menu appears cold and sterile. Quest log is clunky

The game world, atmosphere and quests make up for every shortcoming the game might have. It's my personal game of the year 2017.

yes when i just started playing the game the graphs and how things looked in the game did me think that it is more a console game then pc. pc is well different and console is like this looking... i bet they first made a console version and then pc because this is so easy to spot :(
Atleast gothic games looked like pc and not a console game....

Ok, thanks much for the responses...! I'm still waiting a bit, but your posts are encouraging..;)
As someone who has played every game made by Piranha Bytes, I strongly feel this has the most interesting setting and factions of any of their games.

I liked the Gothic series a lot. Risen was ok-ish.
