I haven't explored even the lower left quarter of the map and ran out of personal markers, mostly used for locked chests and minable rocks. I haven't counted the markers but i guess it's about 128 max.

Yeah, if there's a way to increase this, I would definitely do so. Being able to mark the map as I please is a lot of fun IMO, letting me know where I've been and marking various useful things, etc.
