Hello guys,

Just bought the game a few hours ago, and I can't make it run properly.
Installation went fine.
I'm able to launch the game, and when I try to start a brand new game, it crashes after a few seconds.
I did try to use lower settings, and almost all combinaisons of them, even the potato mode.

I'm using an old Windows 7 64 bits, on a Intel I5 third gen, and a Nvidia GE Force GTX-970.
I have the lastest DirectX available for Win7, according to Microsoft.
My NVidia driver is up to date.

The funny part is that I could play Skyrim, the old version, released in 2011 (still have the media).
That old version run fine, and played it for the past few days.

I can't load my savegame neither in the Anniversary Version, it recognize my savegame, looks like it's loading it, but crash after a few seconds.

Any clues ?
Thanks..
Same problem here in 64-bit Win7 Pro. In my case it crashes on the loading screen after ~4 seconds starting a New Game. I have this problem after installing either the Anniversary Edition or the Special Edition from GOG.

I've tried these things, they may work for you:

reboot after install - no difference
running the game in fullscreen and window mode - no difference
Game file integrity checked - no difference
Uninstalled and Reinstalled - no difference
Reinstalled drivers - no difference
Tried setting default sound device default sample rate to 24-bit / 44100 - no difference
Reinstalled DirecX & MS redistributables - no difference
Turned off scaling in graphics driver for the video card - no difference
run with minimal graphics settings (my system defaults to "ultra") - no difference

Maybe someone knows of some Windows or game settings that need tweaking?

Found a solution: run in compatibility mode for Windows 7. Hopefully that also works for you. It seems to assist the non-smartness of the game so that it can recognize it is running in Windows 7. It might not be the best solution, I'll probably update here if I find a better one (I think my game is crashing trying to initialize DirectX as if it were running in Windows 10).

For anyone that doesn't know what this means, it's as easy as right-click on the SkyrimSELauncher.exe and open the Properties, check the box then choose Windows 7. There's a picture attached of how it looks:

I had the same problem on Windows 7 PRO fully updated, sixth generation i5 and a RX470, using Windows 7 compatibility also solved the problem, but am I wrong or this is a bit stupid, using Windows 7 having to use Windows 7 compatibility, I don't know what to think.
They should fix this silly problem.

I would not have thought of this solution, thank you.
I'm running this on a Mac (M1) chip through Parallels. The system identified the graphics on the highest settings, so I think there's plenty of power to run the game. The Windows 7 compatibility fix didn't work for me (even when I selected "apply for all users").

Curious if anyone else has had this problem running Parallels Windows (11).
