Is there an option in the special edition to play the game as the original? I don't think my computer can handle the updated graphics. I just want to relive this amazing game w/o having to deal with Steam (who refuses to give me access to my account).

I found a low end texture mod, the should help performance: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/47479/. I haven't used it myself, so I can't vouch for it (I don't use mods in general). It's worth looking at, I think. I suggest you also keep an eye out for the ultra low graphics mod. ULG is not compatible with SE (the GoG version), but if you're lucky someone will bring it over from LE.

Samhill345: My RAM is 8 GB.

I found 8GB of ram was not enough to run Skyrim with a mod manager and mods. 'Virtual' ram did not stop the system 'out of memory'' errors but after increasing the physical ram the errors has stopped, for now.
