12/28/20 Seen Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion on sale for $3.75 USD. First time playing any of the series the game seems to be very well put together +Plus I can remap the keys! Very intuitive controls. I ended up buying it on GOG at the end. It's only $1 more and I'm already signed up here.
I've been playing Oblivion for many years. It hits the sweet spot between complexity and ease of use for me. I have modded it extensively to better match my sensibilities. Especially replacing the textures so that they are not so old looking on bigger monitors. I've also replaced the lighting using Oblivion reloaded, although that mod requires knowledge of how to find and change an ini file.

I've never played any games of the series but I find the controls quite intuitive. The world so far is very impressive. I do know some about files etc. It took me a while but I figured out enough of DOSbox to remap keys for another game. I actually played the Ultima series on a C64.

You're in for a treat! Even though i've heard folks saying that Cyrodiil looks like every other medieval setting (which is true to some extend), it doesn't mean you'll be bored soon.

After you've finished Oblivion, i recommend getting your hands on Morrowind too; the gameplay mechanics are different to Oblivion, which you may or may not like, but the world is unique and definitely worth it to pay a visit. Several mods make the game even more beautiful than it was in back in 2001.
