Hi, do I have to give the Drake's Pride to Neloth to progress through the Telvanni questline ? It's so powerful and he gives such a terrible reward, i'd just like to keep it lol.

Also, if not, who do I talk to/ do quests for if not Neloth after doing all the chores the mouths give ?

To my knowledge, you can become archmagister without completing the Neloth quest. You need a mix of attribute, skill and reputation values, and if you manage to get the support of all Telvanni counselors, you can go to Aryon.
I'm not more specific because I don't want to spoil the fun for you.

Whether or not you want to keep the robe is your decision. If you think it's really useful for your character, why not. The real question is, can you meet the reputation requirements without satisfying Neloth.
