I've had the GOG version of Morrowind for a few weeks now, and it worked fine until i upgraded to WIndows 10 earlier today. It won't run in fullscreen unless i change the resolution and then it crashes after a few minutes. I tried just playing it in windowed mode, but it's so laggy and choppy it's pretty much unplayable. So is there a patch or something i can add to fix this?

Yeah, it is. I although i did add the Unofficial v1.6.6_beta patch.
It seems to be working now. I tried it again, fullscreen - full resolution just to see if it would work; and it ran perfectly for a good 45 minutes (before i had to stop playing to get dinner started). So I guess I'll come back to this if I have problems again?
Thank you!
Well, it was working fine. Now i can only play for about 10 minutes before it crashes hard enough to kick a full restart. I tried pulling the patch, but it doesn't seem to matter. Any suggestions?

1: may be worth it to get the Morrowind Graphics & sound overhaul "MGSO" (linked in stickied thread) for the utilities.

if you haven't yet done so.
2: either clean or get clean versions of the "official" plugins

for cleaning I tend to use these

I wasn't sure if that would make it better or worse, so i was holding off on adding anything. I'll try it and see how it goes, Thanks.
I'm waiting for MGSO to download (the internet in my area is notoriously slow) and i'm reading the FAQs and it says it won't work on a digital copy that isn't from Steam. So will it work, or am i wasting my time and bandwidth waiting on this?

Also: if it works, does it work better with a fresh install?

the reason for the "won't work on a digital copy that isn't from Steam" is that on other Digital Stores it was common for the
Executable to be encrypted, that causes issues for the utilities that need to to bug-fix it, but the GOG version isn't encrypted so that's not an issue. basically the readme is Pre-GOG release. And from my experience it works just fine with the GOG version

a fresh install isn't a bad idea to try

Slow internet: I live in an area where 56k still is common though I'm on low end Satellite connection It took a while for me to get MGSO but it was worth it to me

Okay, i figured that they wouldn't bother recommending something they knew wouldn't work, but it seemed safer to ask.
I started the download about ten hours ago, and it still has about an hour to go, if that's any indication of the speeds around here. A buddy of mine works for the local phone company (who own all the wires) and he said we *would* have normal speeds, but they can't be bothered to update the infrastructure.

I think i will so the fresh install, as long as i'm at it. I just hope the character i've been playing still works, it's only level 7, but i have like 19k in gold that i'd rather keep.

Thanks for the help, again!

I can understand that, just incase you didn't know, your saved games are in the "Saves" folder in the morrowind install location. but while I don't get the sense that you are running with lots o' mods if you used the "official" plugins without cleaning them first with that character your saves could potentially be a source of game instability.

I didn't say this to scare you, just something to keep in mind.

is it the GOG version, Other digital store version or from a disc?

GOG version: contact support would be my suggestion

Other digital store: cantact them?

disc version? : Sounds like win 10 may be working as intended (MS disabled "legacy" DRMs in 10) and in that case get either a "new" morrowind or a different OS.

Won't run at all here on Windows10.
It just opens up to a black screen and freezes, forcing me to sign out of the computer or hope task manager spawns in the right place so I can command it to terminate the process (what knucklefuck thought it was a good idea to allow a process to force the computer in such a state that crashing it is the only way out if it messes up? this applies to all Windows OS).
I got a vanilla installation of Morrowind up and running fine on my new Windows 10. I then added in a mod that I had on my older computer, Ravenloft. It won't work at all, when you pick up the amulet it has a smiley face with a crossbar instead of the amulet, and if you try to use it you get a million error messages and crashes the game.

So I took that out, and downloaded a new house , Kaleigh's retreat. It appeared to work fine, until I opened the door - nothing but a million missing objects, house is unusable. Can anyone tell me how to get mods to work on Windows 10?
