Alright I can't play Morrowind on my PC because this error keeps poping up just before the title screen
"Music error: can't load data/files/music/special/morrowind title.mp3".

The only solution I have found online is to setup WMP as my default music player, a player mind you that is not available for windows 10.

If anyone knows if there is any other solution for this problem, I'm all ears.
This might have to to with improper capitalisation in the file system (Microsoft has recently changed some file system internals). Could you try to make sure that the path is exactly "Data Files/Music/Special/morrowind title.mp3" (with this capitalisation)?

If the issue persists, please post the complete path of the directory in which you have installed Morrowind.
the path is capitalized exactly as you have written it Lille, so I dunno

also the game path is: E:\GalaxyClient\Games\Morrowind\Data Files

This might be a silly question, but have you actually checked that the file it is looking for exists. If it does could you then try to run Morrowind.exe directly from the game folder (not from any shortcut nor from Galaxy)? If this doesn't work you could try to uninstall the Galaxy version and download the installer manually instead (from the website).
not much luck with running just the .exe either
I'll try running the non Galaxy version later and bring back the results
nope even the non-galaxy version has that problem

OpenMW seems to be my only salvation

You could try to run Morrowind in compatibility mode for Windows XP (right click -> properties -> compatibility I think). If this doesn't even work I have no idea what is wrong. You could try to contact support although the response times may be long.

First thing I tried actually didn't work.
Anyway thanks for trying to help gonna go setup OpenMW then.
Good luck, then!
Just made an account to post what solved this for me. I'm on Windows 10 as well. I found a thread about codecs and installed this codec package: K-Lite Codec Pack Standard (won't let me post the URL).

After that, it runs fine!
The suggestion from BrainsTheCliff works (thanks for that), but I've found a better way (the K-Lite codec pack I used came with some crapware install options that needed to be unchecked).

Firstly, the problem is probably that you have an "N" version of Windows 10. This version comes without Windows Media Player and associated codecs.

The good news is that this is a free download from Microsoft.

GOG won't let me post links, but if you Google for "media feature pack for windows 10", you should get the Microsoft download page.

This should give you the mp3 codec you need to play Morrowind.
I had the same issue. For me, simply plugging my headphones into the pc solved this problem^^
sry for the bump but I had a similar issue, then W10 updated again and its... gone? Idr what Microsoft keeps doing..

I get that error every time I run Morrowind without my headphones plugged in. Do you have headphones or speakers plugged into the audio jack when you try to run it?
You just have to change your "Morrowind.exe" to "Morrowind1.exe"

and run in compatibility mode Windows Vista and run as administrator

Hope this really helps.
