Hi !

First of all, i don't know if i'll be using the right words for the quest i'm stuck in (i play in french version).

Well, i'm at the beginning of the game. I have to find a "dwemer cube" in ruins near Balmora. I've accessed to the ruins, i visited a lot of that ruins, missing that this cube is not far from the beginning. Well, i've been to the room where the cube is, but i have to fight "boss crito" to get it. And this is my problem, i can't beat him !!! He's level 5 and he's hurting me so much ... I've no more health potions (anyway i should have at least 100 of theses potions to win ...). What's wrong did I done ? I'm missing somethng ? I'm a little bit annoyed, being stuck at the 2nd mission of the game .... :(

It will really depend on your character build. The most common thing that is suggest is to go do other stuff and gain some better equipment, improve your skills, and gain a couple of levels.

Do you have any scrolls available? A lucky, strong first weapon hit could knock him down, making the fight easier. Depending on race, your daily Power can help very much (and is worth resting for) - such as Dunmer's Ancestral Guardian, Breton's Dragon Skin, or Nord's Woad for defense. Orc or Redguard daily power are excellent for offense.

If you just want to complete the mission, it is simple to bypass him with items. You could use an invisibility potion (or Shadow birthsign, or Lover to disable Crito), grab the cube, and either use another invisibility to run back out or an Almsivi/Divine Intervention scroll to quickly exit. Or if you can jump past him quickly enough to grab the cube, you only need an Intervention scroll ready.

Offensive or summoning scrolls/items are always another possibility. Or stacking up on Fortify Agility, Strength, Health. Just the Strength is enough with a lucky hit or two, and is easily acquired through drinking.

Could also get more experience and come back later, as Caius suggests.

So yes, i'll probably be obliged to visit more of the world to increase my experience and skills. I must admit it's confusing to be stuck at the 2nd mission of the game :D I have to find more mobs to fight now !! :)

Good idea! Looks like you were trying to jump right into the main quest. While this is possible, you'd miss most of Morrowind's strenghts - the world and its inhabitants. Perhaps you go back to Seyda Neen (where you left the ship) and start exploring the village and its surroundings? There's quite a lot to do there: solve a murder mystery, retrieve stolen money (return it to the owner, or keep it for yourself, it's up to you), free slaves and fight with the slaveholders in a cave, explore one or two ancient tombs, get in touch with the local wildlife, more or less dangerous, just to mention a few examples. Then travel to Balmora by foot, not by siltstrider, and you'll discover more interesting places and meet interesting people along the way. You'll get more familiar with the game mechanics and controls, build up experience and gather loot and money, which you can use or spend to improve your equipment, buy potions and/or scrolls, and when you arrive in Balmora, you could join the Mage's Guild, which offers several non-fighting quests initially, and gives you access to spells and other magic-related things (if you're interested in that).
Once you've done all this, you should be able to survive your friend Crito. Not only will you have the means to buy whatever you need to get the tube and disappear alive (like Lysanafae said, Intervention or Invisibility scrolls or spells are very useful in this respect), you'll also have acquired better fighting skills, better equipment and probably better fighting techniques to deal with Crito.
Let me repeat: If you focus on the main quest alone (which is interesting and quite lengthy), you'll miss probably 90% of the game's contents, and never find out why Morrowind is so fascinating for many people, even today.

I succeeded in beating Crito. I visited a little bit more of the surroudings, fighting some creatures, doing other quests, now i'm level 6 and it was not a problem anymore.

The main difficulty i'm facing, is that the world is too wide lol I have plenty of quest, that requires me to travel a lot ! BUt i didn't find the uest of solving a murder in Seyda Neen. I freed 2 caverns full of slaves, but i did not get any quest for this (maybe later :-D )

I feel that sometimes the quest is not precise. I have 2 quests where informations are too light : have to find back family jewel on the east of Balmora, i visited East but did not find anything yet, or have to find 4 guys in the north of Balmora, but the same, i visited a lot of north but did not find them yet.

The game is cool and very interesting (even if i must admit i'm too lazy to read all the books i see), but seems very very long to finish !
Oh one last thing.

I could not be able to enter the mage's guild (maybe because i'm a thief). I entered the thieves guild (but can't do the 2nd mission, seems impossible for now) and the warrior's guild :) I entered too the temple, i have to visit some shrines.

This page contains a link to all Seyda Neen quests (among others). I was alluding to the quest "Death of A Taxman".
I'm not aware of a conflict between the Mages Guild and the Thieves Guild - you ought to be able to join both guilds. But I haven't tried this myself for many years, so my memory may deceive me. There is, however, a conflict between the Fighters Guild and the Thieves Guild. You may join both guilds, but there is a Fighters Guild quest in Balmora, which requires you to act against the Thieves Guild (if I remember correctly - you may consult uesp.net in this regard, too, it's contained in the Factions section).

Finally, this game can be very long indeed, and you'll never be able to "finish" it. You can complete the main quest, but, like I said in an earlier post, this is only a small portion of the contents of the game. You can join many different organisations and climb the hierarchy up to the top (guilds, interest groups, temples, assassins, ...), there are many ruins, temples etc. to discover, alien peoples, creatures and animals, two large expansions, and many, many user-created mods, among the several "total conversions", new lengthy games built with the Morrowind engine, ...

Moreover, there is a high replay value, for example by playing different characters and developing them in different directions, or by joining different guilds, interest groups, temples, etc - the game plays very differently.
It's easy to spend 100's of hours with the game - if you're interested.

If you focus on the main quest alone, you'll be able to complete it at a level in the 20's. You will get around the whole island and visit most major peoples, interest groups, regions and locations.
If you want, you can ignore the main quest completely, too, and choose your own path, set your own goals and objectives.
