Would you mind mentioning what that solution was? :) This is the kind of post that drives people insane when they find it a decade after it was posted, trying to fix the same thing :P
If I had to guess, the problem was caused by the way Oblivion (and other Bethesda games) decides which files to load. If two or more copies of the same file are in the game's data folder, the game uses the files' timestamps to figure out which file is the "newest" and loads that one.
In this case, the timestamps on Oblivion's default files are probably set to something very recent and so are "newer" than the mod's files.

The solution would be to re-date Oblivion's data files to be older than that of any mod you install.
It's probably connected to the "Archive Invaldidation" problem that was present in Oblivion and other games with the same engine version (Fallout 3 and New Vegas). See here for detailed information about it: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php?title=Oblivion_Mods_FAQ#Archive_Invalidation

There are a number of methods to deal with it, as explained on the page above, but today only BSA-redirection is still relevant. Either download and install this, or use a mod manager like Oblivion Mod Manager, Nexus Mod Manager or Wrye Bash, which have this feature built in.

This is also possible, as this is usually happening with the Steam Version. I don't know the BSAs are dated in this release. But Oblivion Mod Manager can re-date them if necessary.

Hi guys!

Sorry for the late answer (i was at work ;))

Textures replacement mods now work. Here's my workaround:

1 download oblivion mod manager http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/2097/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Foblivion%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D2097&pUp=1

2 Extract it in your game directory

3 launch oblivionModManager.exe

4 click "utilities", then "archive invalidation", then reset "BSA Timestamps", then "update now"

After that you'll get a ""done!" message and you should bee all good!

Oblivion loads .bsa files in the order of their date of creation. oblivion's base files in GOG version are dated of 2017 so your mods will always seem older to the game. The procedure above reverts the dates of the base game files back to their real date of creation ( 2006 or something!)

Hope this helps! Cheers!
Interesting, good to know! Thanks everybody. I may need this info myself when I have time to install the game.

Yes, I agree and GOG should reset the timestamps for us.

Thanks for that mods not working was driving me nuts yesterday. i reinstalled games thinking it was an issue with downloads
Thank you very much for explaining this, as a complete and utter newbie to modding I'm just wondering a little bit more about this process in the mod manager-software, namely should I choose the "BSA invalidation" or "BSA redirection" option when doing this process, I understand that there are advantages and disadvantages to both. Anyhow, looking forward to enjoying a drm-free and modded Oblivion experience :)

Use BSA Redirection in OBMM or ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated. If you use Nexus Mod Manager and activate BSA redirection, it will be the same as ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated. I never had any problems with it.
Wow, a lot of misinformation in this thread. If you're modding Oblivion you should always sort your mods, preferably with Loot. Also set archive invalidation, you can do this easily in OBMM: Utilities -> Archive invalidation -> BSA redirection (default) -> Update now

That's all, it has nothing to do with the GoG version!
