Just downloaded the GOG Unity cut of the game and when I press "play" I guess it tries to launch but nothing actually happens. No black screen, no (legible) iterror message, just a small image, which pops up and leaves quickly, with what looks like an engine version number or something on it, and then it just doesn't do anything. I am playing on 64-bit Win 10. Is this a known issue? Is there any troubleshooting to get it to work?

Thanks

First off, you could try installing regular Daggerfall Unity and check if that runs. Or you can try disableing all the mods and see if that makes a difference.
... or the usual stuff: Uninstall, redownload, reinstall. If you use Galaxy, try the direct download version.

I can't try disabling the mods becuase the game doesn't load, so I can't get to tthe screen to disable the mods.

I think Ralzar means manually install DFU into a different directory using this method to see if it runs with no mods or reshade: https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2360&p=27538#p27538. This GOG version is just a friendly install of DFU + Mods + Reshade that's been around for a long time.

What GPU are you using? It sounds like a GPU driver issue but difficult to say with no other info. There's also a log file kept here, can you take a peek at that?

"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Daggerfall Workshop\Daggerfall Unity\Player.log"
I had the same problem and closing Fraps solved it for me.
Same problem.

Manually downloading and installing all mods works fine.
GOG version does not.

Unless you're happy with the GOG Cut DFU mod selection and its keybindings (which get reset with every update, until now at least), manually installing DFU and the mods you want is the better option anyway.

Out of curiosity: Are you using Galaxy? If not, you could try running the direct download version of the GOG Cut (works for me - meanwhile uninstalled again, see issues above).
And at which point of the launch process does it crash? Have you tried Ralzar's tipps?
I am using Galaxy
Iniitallyt DFU failed to load a all.
After reisntalling DFU I found I could reach the mod menu.
After that the game could not launch.

My fix Has been
* Enabled "Distant Terrain" but with all mod option disabled.
* Disable "Real Grass"

The game is mostly stable but still crashes every now and than on game load.
Saving the game in some locations can crash the game somehow.

As I travel a lot across Europe, in various houses, with various PCs, I found the cloud saves of the GOG version very convenient.
But I have to agree, the GOG version is quite inferior to manual installed and DFU.

I really miss some mods, as well. I'm crazy about the transparent windows, for example.
Makes the interiors of the buildings so much more fantastic.
Good to hear that you can play. As I don't use Galaxy myself, I can't comment on anything potentially Galaxy- (or cloud-saving-)related. But I can say that I never had any DF- or DFU-related crashes of the kind you describe at all.
I use a selection of DFU mods I selected and installed myself (mostly gameplay mods, but also, for example, Distant Terrains, but not Real Grass), again without any problems (if I encountered one, I would simply deactivate the mod causing it).
I suppose you know where you can find the mods you're interested in, and how to install them.
It's interesting to see what people are having issues with. For me just simply disabling Airships fixed all my crashes and I played the rest of the ~55 hours I spent with the game problem free with the rest of the included mods (even added a couple more on top)
