About 50 percent or so of the time the game crashes when exiting. I had one time when I couldn't do anything and had to log off and back into my account to get back to the desktop.

Are you modding? It does that to me sometimes if I mod.
Morrowind does that too from time to time:)

There is nothing to worry about it. They crashed much more than that on original release.
Done it every time so far with mods and without. Hasn't crashed during the game so not going to worry too much,
Yep. That is a known issue. You can get rid of it by using script extender - OBSE. There is plugin called Fast Exit that should solve it.
I'm having this same problem with Oblivion on Windows 7.

Yes, absolutely.
I recommend the fix Fast Exit on Nexus Mods. It requires OBSE.

I used the FastExit2 OBSE plugin with the latest GOG build from Silverlock. That finally fixed the crash-on-exit problem!
As an alternative to FastExit you might want to use the Oblivion Stutter remover. It fixes the crash on exit and reduces stutter at the same time.
No mods being used here, I'll check that out, thanks.

Oh, I didn't know the stutter remover fixes the problem as well. Then it is probably a better choice.
