So i'm doing this quest for the mage's guild (i think?). They sent me to Castle Vladivir (12 freakin' modules..) to find some hidden giant's blood..
I've explored the dungeon for 2 to 3 hours, pretty sure i've explored all of it. The only things i havent killed or looted is some bats and loot piles stuck in freakin' dangling cages on the sealing that i haven't found any way to get to...

So my question is, what's the penalty for failing quests?
Like i said i think i'm doing this for the mage's guild and this is a fresh character who's APPARENTLY got a bad reputation (beats me why)

Thanks

I'll answer those in reverse order.

Second, the questions you answer during character creation have effect on your character; they aren't just "decoration". Unlike later Elder Scrolls games, however, reputation is by faction and social class. Social classes being, IIRC, Nobles, Mages, Warriors, Commoners, and Underworld. It's likely some question you answered gave you a negative reputation with Mages.

Edit: To clarify, there is no "fame/infamy" system.

First, getting to high places is a good reason to buy or make a Levitate spell. You might not have explored the entire dungeon; teleport objects and secret doors can bring you to new areas. Look for floating skulls, unusual decorations (such as thrones), red doors (may also kill you; save first) and unusually-sized torches. In addition, secret doors are always visible on your automap in some way; most of them can be opened by activating that "wall" section. And, Daggerfall's dungeons can be complex enough that many people resort to cheats. Some people report that certain dungeons are unsolvable; given that Daggerfall glitches can vary between installs, I can believe that. :) Fortunately, the GoG version is very stable, IME.

Oops - Forgot the actual question in the title. Typically from 2-5 points of rep, and if your rep is negative when the month rolls over, I think you get kicked out.
Thanks for the answers and tips.
Unfortunately, even after finding the blood, i was too late and ran out of time.

So now i'm doing another quest for the temple and i have to talk to some guy in his house, but he's hiding behind a locked door.
I saved, bashed it in and completed my objective but as soon as i got out i was slain by the guards...

So, is there a way to get trough that stupid door without bashing it in?
Daggerfall's got some pretty goofy flaws like that :/

EDIT: Turns out it was a thug attacked me outside.
I still cant get into the guy's room though...

EDIT2: I got into the room and delivered the thing, but now i think i have to return to the questgiver but i dont remember where he was....
How do i know where the questgiver was? All it says in my logbook is "of the Temple of blahblahblah".
There's like a thousand temples of each gods xD How the heck am i supposed to remember exactly from which town he was?

Make one town in one region your home base, and always return there to pick up a quest.

I use Chesterwark, a large city near Privateer's Hold. It's got stores, a *bank, Mage's, Fighter's, a temple, a noble, and a Thieve's Guild hall. Either that or Dark Brotherhood. Can't remember. Most of the stores are high-end, which means sale prices are low, buy chances are high, but higher chance of finding better stuff.

* Two banks, but they're right across from each other, so...
