I have played this game before(the CD-ROM edition) and noticed that in that edition the Knight's gear, (whepons, armor, ect) was always in "new" condition. and yet in this GOG edition he only seems to repair swords but not axes nor daggers. I have had an axe in my inventory for days(gametime) and it continues to say "mostly new" and a broken dagger that is not fixed. I understood the whole point of the Knight class was his ability to keep his gear in top order. in the 1994 CD-ROM I never had to worry about equipment. things(except for longswords, broadswords, claymores and metal armour) are always breaking or in bad condition with the Knight, just like any other class. is this a difficulty fix maybe a fan patch or is ti a glitch in the game?

I haven't tried a Knight, but maybe the repair ability works only on the first non-new item in your inventory? Try re-ordering your inventory and see if it fixes.

Also, you might need to actually rest, rather than just let game time pass.

actually I do, I've checked into inns just to wait until the things get fixed. This never came up before but in the dungeon if you rest they seem to repair faster if you rest than in inns.
the pattern is, the Knight seems less interested in repairing things that are not Knight-related, he will always keep sharp edged weapons like swords and claymores(though a claymore seems more a barbarian weapon) in new condition at all times, even when wielding/using it extensively, axes, maces and daggers he pays less attention to. the strange thing is, that makes me think it more a glitch when you reload the save that a given weapon is damaged it is fully repaired. this is not a concern but it is a cheat as well as a glitch. in dungeons he seems more interested in repairing things too. my "mostly new" axe was new then deteriorated with only a couple swings, my broadsword never deteriorates beyond new even with higher level beasts and extensive use. same with plate mail.
Just started a new game with a Knight just to see how it works, and here are my observations:

Repairs seem to take place at 6am each day. Resting doesn't seem to be a factor; travelling to the other side of the continent is a good way to repair items quickly (in real time).

Every weapon or armor is repaired by approximately the amount of durability that one charge of a spell would use. Note that axes and maces tend to have more durability than swords (I think), so it takes more time to fully repair one.

Spellcasting accessories, such as marks and rings, are not repaired; you must use a blacksmith to repair them.

I don't have any data on artifacts; the only one I obtained with this character is the Oghma Infinium, which never actually enters your inventory.
