Hello.

When I try to start the game with the start button on the launch window the screen just flickers black two times and then nothing. Has anyone an idea what the problem could be?
I'm using Windows XP SP3.

Hello viperfdl,

just a quick check - have you right-clicked the icon and selected 'Run As Admin'? I had a similar problem and this let me get past it.

Also, have you checked your graphics drivers, java and .net framework are all up to date? Not usually all three will be the problem, but it's worth checking just in case (Java is not so big a deal for this game, but worth a look anyways).

The Java-version on my pc was to old (6 instead of 7).

I have the same problem. I bought the bundle with Harveys New Eyes and that works fine it's just The Breakout which won't start. I've downloaded the Java update when it popped up during installation so I don't think it's that. Also tried running as administrator. I get the start window but then nothing. The game simply disappears and does not show in the Task Manager. I'ev repaired the netframe thing(????) whatever that is! I have restarted my PC as well so am out of ideas now. I am running a Dell Inspiron laptop on Win7.

Yep - Mine is doing the EXACT same thing as lynthorpe - Ive done everything suggested to do to fix this issue - I just wanna play the game!! Harvey's New Eyes works fine - but yeah, The Breakout won't work at all....very frustrating, not what I would have expected considering I paid my money, I installed all I was asked to and only one of the two games in the bundle are working. - mine is running on windows 7 as well...

I also can't get it to work. Things I've done:

1. Updated Java
2. Re-installed/updated Microsoft.Net
3. Gone into the ednaprefenc.ces and made sure "write" was checked for users in the security tab.
4. Run permanently as an administrator.

I got it running under Win7 - went to the Compatibility tab and clicked "Run as administrator," but also set it for WinXP SP3 compatibility mode, and checked "Disable Visual Themes," "Disable desktop composition" and ""Disable scaling on high DPI settings."

Unknown which of the bunch had any effect, but here I am in a padded cell...

In my case, "The breakthrough" runs fine, but "Harvey's new eyes" didn't reach the language selection screen. I needed to set the shortcut in WinXP(SP3) compatibility mode. The "run as administrator" was already set.

Ahhh... I thank you. I had removed Java & this game would not run because of it. Hooray simple solution!!!
