I know it's sold with the package, so you can't really attribute it a price, but what's the point of playing a game with no sound? Most people decide to try it for its advanced AI. But with no way to get sound to work, who cares! I even tried a windows front end for DOS games called D-Fend Reloaded. You can set up sound and video etc, and it creates a DOSBox.conf file. But that doesn't work either. I have 34 DOS games installed in my D-Fend, and they all work, which is why I say this game is broken....

Surely there's an installer/setup for this?

Just do me a favor. Go to the directory in Dosbox and type dir /w .exe

I had the same problem, but found a solution (for DosBox 0.74) that works on my computer.
It seems that if your computer is to fast, it cannot initialize the sound driver.
When I reduced the cycles-parameter of DOSBox, it works for me.

I open the file dosboxE2140.conf and locate the line that starts with cycles=
When I decrease the value to 60000 (or lower) and restart the game, it works.

Maybe you had to try different values on your computer.

Once the game started, you can increase the speed again using STRG+F12 (default key of DOSBox to increase cycles-values).

You dont need to play the DOS version anymore for working AI, as there is an unofficial patch that fixes a number of the broken elements found in the windows version, inc AI.
