ERISS: Some don't read russian and didn't know the game was still beta.

EvilLoynis: With the added fact that unless you followed the fan forums, or did the beta yourself, there was no real way to know that MotBW was a REMAKE of Genesis. I actually did quite a bit of looking both on their site and gogs and nowhere do they state it's just a remake or anything close to that.

If someone can prove me wrong please post the link. To be clear I do not mean anything in forums OR PLAYER reviews, as when your buying a game you don't always have those with a fresh release or especially with the Pre Ordering fiasco.
I'm a super casual player and I knew it was just a remake with updated graphics. I didn't have to look it up or dig through forums. I don't even remember where i read it to be honest.

Ok but do you agree that it IS a very important fact with this game? And if so should it not have been very easy to find?

I mean the very fact that you don't know how you found out probably means you heard it from a Beta Tester as so far that is the only place it would have been obvious. Shouldn't have to point out that you shouldn't have to be a Beta Tester to know as that's just ridiculous.

Not going to shell out the money for this game though unless they release an actual demo version in english. OR unless I find it on sale super super cheap, under 5 bucks cheap.
I don't have a problem with the concept of remaking the game with improved graphics; but for me graphics, unless they're utterly horrible and interfere with the UI in some way, are something I only pay attention to for the first 5-10 minutes I spend playing a game. After that, it's all about mechanics and ease of play. Good mechanics are the only thing that will keep me coming back over and over, no matter how pretty or flashy the appearance. Also, I happen to like the Genesis graphics, and I don't think the new game's look is necessarily an improvement just because it seems more technologically modern.

I'd rather keep the Genesis graphics and use the development resources to expand and improve the Genesis gameplay. That would be a game I'd buy.

Just some heads up :)

Me and several other people are working on a translation project of the biggest mod for Eador Genesis called New Horizons. Right now it has 2 new races that you can meet: Gnolls and Drow, each of the race has its own events and alliance options. All vanilla race have expanded and separated. Elves now have Elf-swordsman, Elf-horseman, Elf-druid. Goblins have their own archers and sorcerers. Orcs don't have Goblins at all and etc. Aside from new units, there are also a lot of new items and spells added. Units now can have a chance to be promoted(on level up) to another more powerful one. Militiaman -> Slinger(and into several other classes), Slinger > Veteran Slinger. Pikeman > Defender, Guard > Sentinel and etc.

As for the mod's overall feeling.
I loved Eador Genesis and after MotBW frustration I returned to Genesis and decided to start transtating New Horizons. I've never saw a Genesis player who said that Genesis was good but New Horizon was not or has too much unnecessary content. Personally I can say that I don't see any point of playing vanilla Genesis right now, because the NH mod is more challenging and interesting.

Near the finish of the project I'll try to do some kind of a teaser :) You can see the translation progress here

On topic :)

I did only a little research and saw some beta letsplays, this was enough to see how "nice" building GUI was, how you can not differ one terrain type from the other and how horrible radiant menu is. That was enough for me to understand that I need to wait for year to have a decent game :)

Small off topic: Since you are russian, can you please be a thug/mafiaguy/badass guy and force heroes3: HORN OF THE ABYSS to be translated in english soon? Im sick of them "translating" it for years.. :(

Since I have no presence and I'm nobody on that forum I doubt it is possible :) Translation takes a lot of time and needs native speakers that I can organize(I'm the only Russian who is translating NH others are native speakers). I just felt strongly for NH mod and I wanted English people to receive the same pleasure I got from it. I also am doing a handful of spriting for it, so you can understand my interest. :)

UniversalWolf: I'll take the Genesis graphics over the new game's graphics every time. Why? Because Genesis takes 2 seconds to start up on my computer. If you're going to play for hours and hours, that's a much bigger benefit than "prettier" 3D.

Besides, the impact of graphics doesn't last. In five years the new game's graphics will be outdated and people will complain that it's ugly.
Genesis got a pretty ugly mouse performance and the low resolution is beating away the remaining hitpoints.
It´s not Heroes III with it´s timeless style, and it´s not Battle For Wesnoth with it´s "practical 2D". If you are looking at technological background, Genesis isn´t good at all.
That´s why it needs a remake.
I haven´t bought MOTBW jet, so it would be nice if someone could answer my question:
Is it enjoyable at the moment? Or more Alpha than Gold?
I can only say why I purchased it... It was on special with the old game for a good price!

I have played the game on a friends computer so when GoG added them to the range I jumped on it but now that they are being sold separately I have to say that I would only buy the old (genesis) one.
Because game design > bugginess
Bugs can be fixed, they've been releasing patches frequently, it's still a great game at its core.
The original poster asks a good question, but for the wrong reasons. "Why are people buying this game, when it's so buggy?" is the wrong question. The right question, IMHO, is "Why are people paying more than double for this game, when it's the mirror copy of Eador: Genesis, sans the bugs - and Genesis has more features than MotBW".

Why pay more, for less? That's the question to ask.

RadonGOG: Genesis got a pretty ugly mouse performance and the low resolution is beating away the remaining hitpoints.
Hmm...well, I've never had any problem with mouse performance with Genesis. True, it would be nice to have higher resolution, but that's not something that bothers me too much because the game is so lightweight it starts up and runs super fast.

Again, I'm not criticizing anyone for buying the new game. It's just that, for me, more modern-looking graphics aren't enough of an incentive. I like the Genesis graphics just fine.
"Genesis has more features than MotBW"

MotBW has extra events and shard types. It has more features not less.

It also has bugs so for the moment that's a reason to play genesis instead; also if you're gaming on a netbook/integrated graphics.
