Combiner: So I'm guessing the campaign can be played over and over again?
Hope these features carry over into the new one coming out.
Petrell: Old game mechanics should be there in the remake, it's supposed to be more of a graphical and UI overhaul. There ARE new mechanics (like movement in combat may cost 2 stamina in certain shards instead of 1 or other similar effects) and new terrain types like deserts.
I've watched beta LP's and did not really like the new fortress multiscreen UI, Original is much easier to use with everything in one screen. There were also number of broblems that are hopefully fixed by release or in patches.
Oh and you can even save the game in remake :-p, you can't in original. Original autosaves every turn (usefull as game does crash on occasion) and upon exit of the game.
The Campaign Game is open-ended, with 12 possible outcomes (not counting the one where you die and have your Being torn asunder, I assume!). Unlike other TBS Fantasy titles (Heroes of Might & Magic, King's Bounty, etc.), the Campaign game really is open-ended.
It's NOT "on rails". The evolution of the storyline depends a lot on your own karma (they dynamics of which are not real well documented) and some on in-game responses to various events that come up. Unlike other TBS fantasy titles, this one is really about "participating in the story (however it ends)" rather than "overcoming all the challenges to come to the conclusion that represents winning".
In
Genesis, the campaign game moves VERY slowly compared to other titles and can be brought crashing to a halt.
MotBW seeks to provide "streamlined campaign play", but until we see a fully polished production release, we won't know for sure how well that works.
