I own both versions, but have only dabbled. Stability and graphics aside--which version do vets prefer: Genesis modded with New Horizons or Masters of the Broken World + its DLC? I'm curious as to which one has more units, buildings, spells, events, etc.

Thanks!

Genesis modded with New Horizons.

"Masters" only have more errors.
Thank you, Gremlion. I enjoy the simpler graphics of Genesis (big fan of Might & Magic, Master of Magic, etc) and was just curious if the New Horizons mod is a deeper experience than Masters...

Maybe I'll have to play 'em both. ;)

Masters is the rewriting Genesis into 3d, and dlc is a small batch of units for existing alliances. It does have some advantages over Genesis, like shard effects, some engine limitations were removed(aura skills were made possible), and some of Genesis unfixable bugs fixed. Although, citing folklore, there were 100 bugs, one was fixed, there were 130 bugs...

NH mod is a huge content overhaul, with similar to Disciples 3 unit growth system (not a fan of it, personally), new races, and many new items, events and neutral enemies.
NH creators, due to non-profit nature, don't bother with copyrights, so many new things from MOTBW were added into Genesis. Even shard effects were reworked for Genesis, although I don't remember was it standalone project or NH.

I played about 40 hours on Genesis back when it first came out on GOG. On your advice I started a new game yesterday with the NH mod. Already noticing differences from vanilla Genesis. A charming (and challenging) game. Thanks for the information.

As someone who has invested hundreds of hours in both, I can honestly say that, with New Horizons, Genesis is so superior of a game that I simply no longer play MotBW. Even after playing MotBW plus the DLC for hours, creating the appropriate alliance and overtly trying to get them, I never got (or even encountered) even one of the MotBW 'Allied Forces' DLC units, and felt that it was a complete waste of money.

Playing Genesis: New Horizons, I immediately encountered three entirely new races, each with 7+ unique units and 10+ buildable town structures, half-tier upgrades on all base units, over 100 new artifacts, dozens of new spells (which are actually useful!), and over 120 new creatures (plus the whole 'The Witcher' tie-in). I went back and forth for a while, but now I only play New Horizons. It killed not only the new MotBW, but also my old favorite, HOMM, in the way it provides me with endless variety and kills time like the hours are some kind of swarming bacteria being annihilated by a chemical agent.

Ahem. Your results will vary, of course, but really, as long as graphics aren't an issue for you, I think you'll find that MotBW is a 'good' game, and EG:NH is a 'if I ever get stranded on a desert island, I want this to be the one game I take with me' game.
My only objection to New Horizons is that some of the artefacts are ridiculous, and not in a good way. They are both unbalancing and detract a lot (or everything) from the atmosphere.
Genesis with New Horizons will suck your time away. It is my favorite strategy game of all time and I have been playing them since Civ 1. Never thought a game would beat HoMM3 or Fall from Heaven(Civ4) but New Horizon has. Hats off to those crazy Russians.
I feel exactly the same way, even without NH. This game blew me away, Bokulev is a genius. After 50 hours I knew this was one of the best, and after 300 hours I decided that this is the best game ever. I can't wait to see what he does next.
Recently he made a addon dungeon for Legend of Grimrock, and it was excellent.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread (I've seen you post recently, gscotti)
Could you list the items you don't like?
http://eador.online.fr/en/item.var.html

There was a recent "Great Rebalancing" in item.var, so your problem may have been fixed; and if it was not, the devs have a dedicated thread to discuss unbalanced aspects of the game.

Regards.

I see you still have "PIP boy" and "Space rangers" there. Yeah, those bother me.

Ah these... I asked about them a few months ago, and was told that they are ignored by the game engine. Did you ever receive one of them in an actual game?

You should be happy to hear that I have removed all references to these "futuristic" items in the upcoming English release (2.50b)

Regards.
Rarity 8 means that item is undroppable. If there are no shops where item specifically written in like alliance contracts, you can't get it. I suppose it was left in game files due to removing being much more tedious than disabling.

Like I told Jazz, on top of marking the item as undroppable, he should set the name to DELETED, and remove all abilities. That way, players won't complain about silly items.
Hello Boon952

Just getting into Eador Genesis with the New Horizons mod...and wow, what a game

When do you estimate the release of 2.50b
and will current savegames be compatible?
