I've been playing the campaign through for the first time, and I'm around 15 shards in (discovered the cloud a few turns ago). However I've been playing through the current shard today, and I've had around 4 crashes. Not crash to desktop, freeze the entire pc (complete with stuck sound), needing to reboot manually. It happened in a previous shard a few times but came good. I thought it was something to do with combat, but last crash happened on the main map.

Any thoughts?

Typically a driver issue - try updating your sound and graphics drivers. Since you mention dual AMD graphics cards, try disabling Crossfire for Eador (it shouldn't really need it, and doing so should simplify matters). If you have overclocked your system (especially if you have increased PCI-E or memory speeds) try reverting back to standard settings.
I'd suspect cpu before memory when your system locks… what else is running on this system?

The cpu hogs are usually anivirus programs trying to monitor behaviour with sand box software, torrents (including cloud sinking software) & old cpu/ graphics drivers witch have manufactures names attached instead of the cpu makers (intel are notorious for this).

Don't install to the programs folder (removes some windows monitoring restrictions).
Is the system running physically hot when playing the game?
I did re-enable cf the other day, but I don't think it was active when it first started crashing. I'll turn it off before I fire it up next.

CPU is a Q9550 with a H70, system is all stock. Games go in a games folder on second drive.

I don't think I'll be firing it up again till thursday or so, too much to do, but I'll see what happens then.
