I am coming to a point, on the first mission, where I have acquired all the provinces except for the enemy city, as the guards are too strong for my army. As this is the first time I am playing, I have made several mistakes and lost my army several times, so I get back from start with new units every once in a while. The problem is that I can't get my units to become sufficiently powerful to attack the enemy city. Since I cannot get larger army, cannot build new buildings in town, it seems I will never be able to grow a powerful enough army for take down the enemy city. Looks like a gameplay flaw to me.

It is two possible solutions:
1. You can explore your own lands for special locations to gain more experience (from battles), items and spells (from loot) and mercenaries(from castle and special locations).
2. You can just attack enemy with your current forces, die, resurrect and attack again until all enemy troops are eliminated.
Thanks Adrageron, it worked, I had to attack several times with new units until I got the city. Now onto other shards and will see how it goes. This game really rocks!
