I bought MotBW in the sale this weekend....incl the DLC
When I launch a small window pops up to say that my game is outdated and do I want to update automatically
If I choose to update it tells it has failed to update
and the game does not launch

In oder to launch the game I have to choose not to update

The main screen tells me I have V 1.6.2

??

Same things happens with me, but it says 1.6.2 on the main screen. But in the patch notes it says " Guards HP is now showed in a province’s tooltip." but i can find it. SO is it updated or not?

Have only done the tutorial shard, almost finishing my 1st shard tho, lets see if i can transfer heroes... will try to update.

Only thing I can say is that we do have version 1.6.2 of the game and that seems to be the latest version of the game. Not sure what's going on with the patch notes, however, as I don't see that change mentioned on the developer's official site and they usually mention any and all updates to the game here:

I have finished my 1st shard and was able to transfer heroes and items (not using mods). So the instal from GOG is updated to v1.6.2, as it should be. It seems thats the reason trying to update "fails", it should not alert asking us to update the game when it starts then.

Regarding guards HP, i still havent found any hp bar - im referring to province guards, the ones you dont control but after a battle would be good to know the state of the guards to ponder if you should replace them (and thats why i think they are refering to province guards). Maybe im not looking right... In any case that would be a problem for the devs to fix.

So I decided to uninstall and re-download & re-install
But the game still tells me I am outdated every time I want to play
and of course fails to update

The only way to launch is if I refuse to update

It is not a good begining....every time to have to go through the updater
Is it possible to disable or bypass the updater?

One thing I notice was the main game file when it finished DLing did not have the usual GOG icon
The update and the DLC did have the usual GOG icon
I dont know if that is relevant

Yes, every time i launch the game a window prompts telling me my game is out of date and asks if i want to update. It is an error, since the game is up to date (the install version from GOG). It should be fixed, not only is annoying but in a game with 100h+ campaign they will probably update the game again before u finish and you will never be the wiser since u already have "ignore game update" on auto...

Anyway, ive checked the patch notes and most things (from diferent patches) i have already found in game, so the game is up to date. :D

Yup, same exact problem, and same exact solution: always click on "No" for no updates. I mentioned this issue in another thread long ago. It is not a big problem, to be honest.

I found the updater exe in the game folder and changed its name to .exe1
Now it doesnt run on start up

Yes, i cant find it in-game. The most similar thing i found is a percentage of guard units still alive when u pass the mouse cursor in a province (if it has guards).
