Greetings,

Is there any way to exceed the limit of 8 heroes in Eador Genesis?

I'm guessing that there is a var file somewhere that caps the hero limit to 8 and I would like to modify that cap to 12.

Do any of you kinow if this is possible?

Thanks.

Hardcoded in exe file, afaik. Impossible to change.

Just out of curiosity - how to manage to get to 8+ heroes? By the time you have funds to field so many heroes, you can probably max out your castle and presumably win the map.

Also, your newer heroes would find it hard to level up. I normally 'use up' ring +1 to level up the first two/three. Even after giving new heroes veteran units to bootstrap them, can't really go out and fight in outer rings right away simply because of limits in unit/spell slots and limited HP of hero.
Thank you for your replies.

I was hoping it wasn't hard-coded but oh well.

Yes, I was playing on a huge map in single player mode and had isolated the last 2 opponents in their home provinces (so the game wouldn't end). I was just experimenting with the limits of the game and after hundreds of turns (mainly trying to acquire as many legendaries as possible) I had around 280k gold and tried to buy a ninth hero for the hell of it.

Perhaps Masters of the Broken World will have larger limits than Genesis.

Not really if you have arena and can equip your heroes at least decently. Arenas are the places I usually train my 4th+ heroes. Usually have to stop at around 10th level though as opponents start to field 4th level units (commanders even earlier)

Thanks for that information - I have used arena a fair bit but (unfortunately) I have been surprised a a couple of times when the opposing hero pulled out some really strong army/spells! I guess you can level up the hero [after gifting them some good items/units] for a to about 5 without any serious danger but post that can sometimes result in some nasty surprises!
Decent leveling you can obtain by giving to fresh hero high level veterans.
3 Swordsmen + healer are able to kill everything up to occasional T3 unit. If you have chosen only evil units, look for mercenaries in tavern. Healers, swordsmen, dwarves... Last ones are surprisingly strong AND have poison immunity.

When you unlock T2 slot - take spider. Once I killed Phoenix, summoned by 5 lvl enemy mage, thanks to it.

With this tactic I usually get up to 8-10 levels in veteran league, and then 2-3 more in novice league safely.

Always remember your amount of victories in veteran league.
10th battle would be against Orca - cheater-battlemage with bonuses from full drake set(spell immunity, includes shield) and two-handed weapon (no stamina loss).

Easy way to deal with him - Teleport spider to him.

Thanks, Gremlion! That was very insightful.

I normally try the arena but don't usually go beyond level 5ish as sometimes you get really strong enemies which can result in the loss of a really solid unit. Normally I have swords with 10+ levels and healer - and - I want them to remain with the hero for later as they are really strong (for their rank). I'm probably not skilled enough to ensure their survival especially when there are really random enemies at later levels in the arena.

Great point about Orca - is there any special reward for beating him? I wouldn't mind a piece of dragon set! I actually got the quest from shop to kill dragon AFTER I killed the three ones which were visible on the map.
You get to choose one of 4 purple items.
I always pick Crossbow of Wrath, there is sword with regeneration and don't remember other items. Probably wand and banner. (You can guess most useful item, lol)
