Downloaded the universal updater, when to update the game and it says error check patch log. This is what it says on patch log

Eador - Genesis patch log
Update from version 2.0.0.5.5 to 2.0.1.6

Incorrect version of: C:\GOG Games\Eador - Genesis\var\phrases.var

The 2.0.0.5 and 2.0.1.6 are GOG internal version numbers and have nothing to do with game version. 1.x.x.x are old pre win8 installers and 2.x.x.x are the new post win8 installers (there are few execptions like witcher 2 being 3.x.x.x).

The 1.05.1 is the latest afaik, the hotfix (the current universal update) does not touch game exe and only fixes some typos and errors in scripts so game version does not change.

As for errors, have you changed anything in files mentioned (downloaded mod, fan fix or something)? If you have, you may need to reinstall. Other than that, I've no idea.

reinstalling sounds like a safe bet...
backup your save directory and try a clean new install (redownload the latest installer from gog too)

Ok i reinstalled and did the patch and it worked this time. Quick other question do yuo still have to put in the hotfix for the one dialog.var? Where the game freezes at the bigin of a turn with a picture of a soldier with a green arrow

The hotfix patch has a higher version number then the latest setup file you can download so I am assuming you still should install it.
I don't think you need to mess with dialog.varr file, just use the installer.

No, the corrected dialog.var is included in the official hotfix.
