I don't have Genesis installed on my PC, and haven't had for a while, but isn't it so that you can "cheat" by editing a simple text file? If I recall correctly, you can:
a) Give yourself as much initial gold and gems as you want and
b) make neutral armies as weak as you like.

I wouldn't call it "cheating", merely "tweaking" the difficulty.
The file to edit is simply var/difficulty.var

Boon952: Puppy, I'm sure you'll be delighted to hear that I have found a way to make the game even harder (by improving the AI in some combat situations). You can thank me later :-p
You know, I love a good AI. This may sound stupid (I get that sometimes I'm stupid. I'm ok with this) but I respect a game with a good enough AI to make me ragequit so hard I uninstall the game and don't come back for months. Only two games have done that to me, so far, and Eador is one of them.

What I do not like is not understanding the mechanics. Of course - obviously - I'll get a grasp on them eventually just by playing the game and beating my face against it. At some point it'll all click and I'll be able to beat the campaign, maybe even up the difficulty (I refuse to play lower than "skilled" no matter how much it hurts ^_^ ) and go through it. But for right now, it's enjoyably frustrating.

I hate this game so much that I intend to keep playing it, perhaps for years XD

OneFiercePuppy: Probably my least favorite thing about this game is that the mechanics are never clear. Never.

Literally nothing in English ever explained how crucial the plunder provinces option is, and why. I mean, yeah, I can read some of the Russian and can Google translate the rest (and have done so) but I still managed to miss that detail
What is unclear and crucial about plundering?

I suppose he have found discussion about bug in plundering -multiplier, given by Temple of war, was x50 instead of 1,5. Resulted in 40-50 thousands of gold from big provinces.

You wouldn't call it cheating to give myself 1000000 gold and 100000 gems? And reducing HP to 10? Whatever it is called, when I did it, I felt truly dirty. I felt actually worse than those times I used Cheat Engine with some games. I felt so bad about editing that file, that it almost killed my enjoyment of the game. That was strange, because I thought I don't care about the difficulty of games and that I can enjoy every game regardless of difficulty level. Turns out, if I can make the game too easy, I don't enjoy it after a very short while.
