Which version are you playing Genesis or Masters?

Dang my test show that your probably going to have to start from scratch again by starting a new campaign. Hopefully someone else has better ideas.

This is a very good lesson why game developers should not create the type of save game system they made for this game.

How do i access the saved game file so i can make backup copies of games in progress?

As for the OP's problem, have you tried setting bios to 'fail safe', reducing turbo's etc and just generally dumbing down your system? Then there is windowed mode, and compatibility options to try as well.

The last resort would be to ask someone for their saved game file - much better option than repeating too many shards!
Rename gameX.bkc or gameX.bka - into gameX.cmp.
bkc - save on shard, bka - in Astral. One of them shouldn't be corrupted.

Create a folder (shardX or whatever) in the Eador folder and copy all the files in the "Save" folder to it.

If you'd like to avoid going 'back into the past' when your Hero dies, you've wasted a move or made a bad decision, hit the "Windows" key, right click on the task bar, execute Task Manager, highlight eador.exe, and "end task". when you reboot the game, you'll be at your last save (which occurs whenever you select 'Exit' from the game menu.

This is complicated advice and can be explained in a much simpler way.

When you reach a point that you want to make a backup / save DURING a current shard then press exit so your back to the main menu of the game.

Find your save game folder which is usually found "C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Eador - Genesis\Save" for example.

TO SAVE - Create yourself a new folder either in this file or on your desktop and copy the 2 documents named "map#.cmp" and "game#.cmp" into it. The # refers to your player profile, if you only created one then they will be numbered 0 as in map0.cmp . For backup purposes like this I like to save every 10 turns or so but you could do it every time if you really wanted to. NOTE - It's important that you at least exit out to the main menu to avoid getting revision count.

TO LOAD - To reload the game from your save point exit to the main menu (it is not necessary to quite the game get out to the main menu), Alt Tab and go into your back up folder and copy those 2 files back into the main Save folder. When you continue the campaign now you will be back at your save point.

The same thing works for Single Scenarios as well the files are named "map#.map" and "game#.sav" though.
Yeah tried renaming but it didn't work . . re started and now up to 12 shards without fail. . . keeping my fingers crossed. . On Genesis. . just bought Masters. Is it much different other than Graphics?
