I find pet training the most frustrating part of this game. It is completely counter intuitive. I am using a keyboard & mouse on the PC version.

You have two flags like things, one a green exclamation mark which when it stops it opens up the options. Once you select one you then click the mouse button to land on the thirds star (or before if you not so lucky) to advance.

Can you control the green exclamation flag with a mouse click or something? I thought that the first little star when it shrunk would do something but it this feels like it was false hope.

The second flag is blue (?purple) with a paw print. This seems to be uncontrollable and its purpose seems to undo all the hard work in gaining trust/interest . Do these flags all operate by chance or is there some secret that has eluded me.

You seem to make some ground up then the blue paw flag causes the animal to be distracted and bang you are back where you started.

Can there be a better tutorial or instruction on how to tame pets.

In the current game, the pet training is effectively an RPG 'battle' game on a timeline. The green flag is your turn, the blue flag with a paw is the animal's turn.

On your turn, you'll want to do the following:
1) Select your action
2) When your flag reaches one of the 'stars' on the timeline, click again to earn a bonus on your action. (eg. if the Hug action gives +++ and you clicked on the third star [Perfect], your hug will be 2x +++)

When the pet has a turn they might be:
A) Startled by something (imagine if a tree branch snapped in the woods behind it, then it would be fearful and lose trust).
B) Distracted by something and lose interest in your character
C) Curious about your character and gain interest

Once you've got the hang of it, you should be able to tame pets that are +/-2 levels from your own, but to get started you should maybe only try with level 1 animals. Bunnies that can be found on the path leaving your town are level 1 (note that Jackrabbits, which are slightly larger but look very similar, are level 4).
