My friend got this and said that he can only get the midi music is there something he is doing wrong?

That's odd. The GOG install has the CD image, which DOSBOX automatically mounts. This should not be an issue at all unless he or she has manually edited the config files. I would suggest uninstalling the game and selecting the option to delete the directory and then reinstalling the game to see if that solves the problem.
