I have a 17th level Knight of the Crown with 3,013,934 experience points that's being told he doesn't have enough experience to advance to 18th level. Manual says 3,000,000 is required. Is the bald headed trainer smoking dope or is it me? I plan to switch to Sword at 3,850,000 and Rose at 5,500,000 so as to not lose any levels during the process.

It might help to know which game you're playing. All the games have level caps, though The Dark Queen of Krynn's are high enough that you might not ever reach them. I can't remember the specific level caps for each game right now. (Gold Box Companion might allow you to get around level caps for a given game, but I've never tried it.)

I don't know if that's what you're facing, but it's the first thing that occurs to me.
Sorry 'bout that. I assumed it would be obvious I was playing Dark Queen as the levels I described are only available to be reached in that game. Anyway, the problem resolved itself when the knight reached 3,200,000 XP meaning either the manual is wrong or the programmers are the ones smokin' dope.
The gold box games do come with a number of subtle bugs and TDQK may even contain more than many others. (As I understand it\, it was the last gold box game, in the sense of being an actual game,* and was built with an odd hybrid engine, part gold box and part something else entirely.) On the other hand, there likely are quite a few errors in the manual.

*Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures, which I believe came last in the gold box line, is not something I see as a game in the usual sense but more a collection of tools to write your own adventures, a bit like Bioware's Neverwinter Nights, but NWN also included a standard game.
I'm also in DQK and do I understand the table right?

May Knight of the Sword is level 15 with 2,875,000 XP.

So, when I change to Knight of the Rose (which I have to because only they advance higher than level 18), the character gets back to level 12, because that's the Rose level for this amount of XP?

If that's right, is it just regarding the level or also losing HP and attacks until new leveling?

Hm, why did I ask instead of saving and testing? The answer is yes!

When changing to Knight of the Rose, the character is set back to the new level according to the XP and also the statistics are set back, i.e. worse THAC0 and lower HP.

Just tested it with an old savegame. The current one is no problem, the knight meanwhile was Sword 18 with over 5,500,000 which is enough for Rose 18, so no difference.
