I found these 2 purple eyes that glow in the Nazca Lines section in the south east. They change color in a pattern so they are not errant pixels.

I have not found mention in the Clue Book or any FAQ that I can find anywhere.

Does anyone know what these Eyes are?

What I've tried so far:

I tried detect invisibility, I've tried to dig there, attack it, I've also tried ropes and anything else I can think of. Nothing interacts with it.

I don't think it's one of the typical glitches. Hall of mirror and leftover pixels don't glow and disappear when you move the camera. The other effects that don't clear (like the trap icon) are full bitmaps, not just partial pixels.

Effects that glitch or don't clear always clear when I change maps. The closest color effect I could find is Dispel Magic or a couple pixels from the purple part of Rainbow Pattern. BUT I've never cast a spell in that corner. There's no monsters to fight here so I know I never cast any spells there, even by accident.

As far as I know, there is nothing special about that particular spot. It might just be a pixel error left in when the map was created for all I know.

Thanks. I went ahead and started a new save. First visit and the eyes are definitely there.

The only level I know of where you can see map artifacts is the wyrm temple, and they are just repeated textures that appear to be left in by accident. So I don't think it's the background peaking through.

Since it is a repeating glow animation it feels like something is there on a top layer. Unless the ground layer has transparency and there's also something unusual under it. I don't remember any glowing purple textures throughout the game, but I'll keep an eye out to match it up to scenery in case it is a floor with transparency on top of something that was left in by accident.
P.S.S.

In my newest run through, I had monsters spawn in this map for the first time. Insect Swarm uses very similar colors, but cycle way faster. So I don't think it's a glitch from them in anyway.

I'm trying to keep an eye on the sparkle colors on certain maps. They tend to be diagonally spaced and be brown or yellow, but I wonder if there's one that matches there. If so I might be able to figure out if it's one of those effects.
Using the map export tool I was able to find out what tile it is. It's TILE-214 in region RGN22.GFF

Here it is cut away.

This tool exports it with the errant pixels on the bottom row.

The transparency color appears to be pink, #FC54FC, but the still I have attached is a violet #C44CFC and the animation cycles darker.

There are tiles with what I'm assuming is that transparent pink such as TILE-123. These transparent tiles appear to be the edge of the hot springs, but I don't know what the yellow is for.

Anyway, I'm using this export tool to investigate and it says it can export animations but I haven't figured that out yet. If the texture itself animates, we have the answer.
