I was testing the game with a friend during the weekend and we got it running quite nicely with Radeon 5770. Using an old hint from Google we copied atiumd64.dll, atiumd6a.dll and atiumdag.dll from Catalyst Vista 7.12 x64 and put them to Dungeon Keeper II main folder. After this the game does run without disabling hardware acceleration. I am going to buy the game after posting this bit of information. The idea is that the 16-bit z-buffer is still available on the 7 and 8 series of Catalyst drivers for Vista.
The only problem we had: how to verify if the game actually runs using 3D hardware and not software?
Download drivers for x64:

I am going to upload a fraps capture later.

EDIT: The game is working in Software 3D mode (engine id 4)...
