Hi, I could use a hand. I'm using a windows 8 workstation and i can get the game to execute go through the cut scene and arrive at he main menu. When I pick any thing (new campaign, options, etc etc) it Tries to zoom in on the center of the map and gets 2 frames in and crashes. "DKII stopped working" etc etc.

I'm sure its a simple setting somewhere but any ideas what I need to change where?

Thank you.

Try this updated graphics patch by Timeslip http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/temp/DK2-patch-v4.7z

Here is my config file in case it helps http://www.mediafire.com/download/l2v9uehi9wi4jrr/GOG.7z

The config file is located in c:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\GOG\DungeonKeeper2\ My one has antialiasing and anisotropy enabled.

Run the game using DKII-DX.exe, if you still crash or experience any other problems try compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3.

Updated the patch file and still having the problem.

I was able to make it run in windows XP SP 3 mode by right clicking the icon, going to properties and checking the box to chose the compatibility mode.

I marked this as solved because it worked once, after exiting and going back into the game this is sill happening.

I am having exactly the same problem. I'm running windows 8.1 and all my drivers etc are up to date.

Disable any forced antialiasing, gamma correction, anisotropic filtering or transparency from your Nvidia control panel. If you have no idea what any of that is, this is likely not the cause.

Try the updated graphics patch first because this addresses issues specifically with Windows 8 and 8.1 users.

Try changing the windows compatibility settings for DKII-DX.EXE so that it is set to Windows XP SP3. Try also "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" and make sure the game is set to "Run this program as an administrator".

Try the original executable. Make a DKII.EXE shortcut with these command line parameters -32bitdisplay -32bittextures -nointmouse

My shortcut looks like this "C:\Games\GOG Games\Dungeon Keeper 2\DKII.EXE" -32bitdisplay -32bittextures -nointmouse

If all else fails, use the Dungeon Keeper 2 [Safe Mode] shortcut.

Doefies: i have the same problem where can i find the safe mode shortcut for dk2?
It is installed with the game, look in your Start Menu shortcuts. If you're using Windows 8 it will be on your Start Screen.
I've applied the Timeslip patch, custom config and run in compatibility mode but it still crashes each time for me. I'm running Windows 8.1 x64.

Any other ideas?
I am also having the exact same problem. I have the same operating system: Window 8.1

Worked the first time I installed it, and got to level 2. Then when while loading the main map menu for level 3 it crashed. Tried all the compatibility modes to no avail.
I figured out a solution if you're still looking.

I'm not sure if the first 2 steps matter, but here's exactly what I did...

1. Install setup_dungeon_keeper2_2.0.0.32.exe using compatibility mode Windows 7
2. Run DKII-DX.exe with no compatibility mode
3. Change screen resolution 1400 x 1050

Like I said, no idea if step 1 and 2 matters, but this works for me. No more crashes. Hope you have similar luck.

Installing with compatibility mode makes no difference, GOG's installers are made to work on all systems.
It is not solved for me. I have the same issue, followed all the instructions, and nothing.... Cannot play.
