Heya, i was wondering... Dungeon Keeper Gold, had once been released on CD, with the OpenGL support and stuff. And that CD is for windows... I just so happen to own it, after all this time. But still, thanks GoG for the (Digital) gift. I want to ask; why is GoG version bound to DosBox? I encountered some problems and performance issues, inability to get a functional full screen game area among other things, while the original CD did not give me any trouble at all. Why is that? What is happening?

GOG is using the DOS version of the game because, as far as I know, it is the most stable for the majority of people. Naturally you need an emulator of some kind to play DOS games, which is where DOSBox comes in.

This forum might be able to help you out with some of your problems (if there are speed issues I believe you can use ctrl+F12 and ctrl+F11 to speed things up or slow things down; I assume you already tried alt+enter for fullscreen?), or you contact Support (although it's the weekend, so you may have to wait until Monday to get a response).

The DOS version is more stable than the Windows release. DOSBox is multi-platform, meaning that PC, Mac and Linux users can play the game without a hitch. DOSBox can also be updated independently to fix any bugs or performance issues. It totally makes sense for GOG to use the DOS version because of these benefits.

Try different Graphics modes using the DOSBox Configurator. You can load this from the shortcut "Launch Graphic Mode Setup".

If you're looking for a superior version of the game, then I would recommend you install KeeperFX.

The benefits of KeeperFX are

- It has support for multiple campaigns (Ancient Keeper, Burdened Imps' Level Pack etc.)
- It has high resolution and widescreen support
- It contains a rewritten game engine with improved AI and bug fixes
- It has TCP/IP multiplayer support but it is currently in its infancy and may be 'slightly' buggy

Do you know of a way to install KeeperFX on a mac? I downloaded the 7zip file but all of its launchers are .exe executables and MacOS has no idea how to handle that.

To get it to work in fullscreen go into the Dungeon Keeper Gold folder and open dosboxDK.conf.
Find the line "output=" and change the value on the other side(it should be "surface" by default) to "opengl", save it and it should work in fullscreen.

Manual editing is unnecessary. All graphics options can be changed using "Launch Graphic Mode Setup".

I do not have a Mac, so I am unable to test, but I believe that you "might" be able to get it working if you use Crossover or Wine. If not, your only other options are VMware, Parallels, or installing Windows via Boot Camp.

Thanks guys! The open GL option in graphics settings totally saved the day for me! Kisses! You are awesome people, better than the technical department itself!
