Hi Everyone,

i try to run Dungeon Keeper 2 in 2 different Virtual Machines, Oracle Virtualbox and VMWare.

I tried operating systems Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 32bit and 64bit Prof.

I doubleclick the Link "Dungeon Keeper 2" and then i got the Windows message the
"DKII-DX.exe no longer works".

At details i get the info:
APPCRASH
DKII-DX.exe
PATCH.dll

I made it short, because the information is in german :-)

I installed on the virtual machines the 3D/2D usage, Sound and 1-2 Core CPU.

If there are more details needed, i try to deliver them.

Thank you for your help.

Other games like Diablo II are running.
So you cannot run the game in either VM? Have you tried to run the DKII.exe (not the DKII-DX.exe)?
DKII-DX.exe requires hardware acceleration, which is not available in a virtual machine. (Even if you check those 2d/3d acceleration options in virtualbox, afaik it does not provide acceleration for directx versions as old as what dk2 uses.) This is probably what is causing the crash. As 7upMan suggested, running DKII.exe instead, (use the safe mode shortcut,) should work if you want to play in a virtual machine.

You also need to disable mouse pointer integration, or the mouse pointer will behave incorrectly in game.
