Keep in mind that wine development now days is driven mostly by people that won't it to run games so yea, functions that are under this execution layer are crafted so that it runs games without problems.

I'm not sure about that, I get the feeling that Codeweavers is more focused on Crossover Games because it's getting less and less common for there to be applications that are without some Linux and Mac replacement.

Whereas games tend not to be so easily substituted.
Short status report:

Installed on my Archlinux + Wine + Playonlinux with the GOG Install script.
It works flawlessly as far as I can tell, but only the next lan-party will show HOW well it actually runs...
