I just got DK2 from the sale and I can't seem to change the game to my desired 1920x1080 native resolution.

I've already looked at other threads and edited the registry values for Height/Width but nothing happens; I stay at the same low resolution with black bars. I've also tried switching from the DXII-DX.exe to the DXII.exe but I only got corrupted graphics (still no resolution change). I've also tried setting compatibility modes to XP but nothing has changed.

All in all I haven't even been able to touch the resolution; I can't even change it to a preset value in the options menu.

I'm trying to run this on a Windows x64 ultrabook.
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3317U
Graphics: Intel HD 4000

If you're running the game with another user as the current (e.g. as Administrator) the registry keys in HKEY_CURRENT_USER are the wrong ones.

Look under HKEY_USERS\<USER-ID>\Software\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Dungeon Keeper II\Configuration\Video where <USER-ID> differs from user to user. The location might differ a bit on 64bit systems, so the easiest way is to use the search function, search for Bullfrog until you've changed every Dungeon Keeper configuration you can find.

By the way, the options menu always shows the standard resolution, no matter what you set in the registry.

I don't recommend going over 1280x resolutions. At 1920x the game becomes so incredibly zoomed in it's really difficult to play, let alone look at, especially if you're affected by narrow FoV issues and/or play other RTS games zoomed out.

Qpil, I'd highly recommend browsing this forum, as there should be a solution to each and any issue ever described. In your case, I'd also recommend the Supreme Keeper zoom-out EXE, which does what its name says. I find it extremely handy.

All in all I haven't even been able to touch the resolution;
The main menu is always in a rather low 4:3 resolution, widescreen-res is only seen in the actual game.
Like Blind said, it's better to try a smaller resolution, e.g. 1280x800.

An important thing I forgot in my first post is, that you have to use ..\Dungeon Keeper 2\DKII.exe to start the game and not the Desktop link or any other executable (like DKII-DX.exe), because GOG's safemode hack seems to ignore some of the registry entries.

Don't use Compatibility Mode and don't run it with another account for now, so you don't have to worry about the right registry keys to edit (like mentioned in my first post).

If the game starts with DKII.EXE, but you get a black background in the main menu or a crash, hardware acceleration doesn't work
- Quit the game and open regedit
- Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Dungeon Keeper II\Configuration\Video
- Set "Engine Id" to "4"
- Restart the game and check the background of the main menu, if it's there, quit the game and we try changing the resolution

Now edit "Screen Width" and "Screen Height" in the registry at above mentioned location
- Make sure you enter the values in Decimal and not in Hexadecimal
- Not every resolution works, in my case the game runs with 1280x800, but e.g. with 1680x1050 it crashes to desktop
- The main menu will still use a low res, the higher resolution only shows in-game
- Glitch: When I open the in-game menu (by pressing Esc), while using the higher resolution, I only get symbols but the captions are missing. So you have to know what is what, Save, Exit etc.

For further graphic optimization, create a shortcut to DKII.exe (right-click) and open its Properties (right-click the shortcut)
Add the following command line parameter to Target:
-softwarefilter -32biteverything -nointmouse -enablebumpmapping -enablebumpluminance
Target should look like this (depending on your installation folder of course):
"C:\GOG Games\Dungeon Keeper 2\DKII.EXE" -softwarefilter -32biteverything -nointmouse -enablebumpmapping -enablebumpluminance

If starting the game with this link doesn't work, remove"-softwarefilter".
