when i start dk2 it just blacks screens nothing more

Same thing here, I tried both the patch and the ATI workaround provided by GOG. No difference.

EDIT: If I wait for a while I do hear the sounds of what I assume is the intro video, and it seems I can skip that with escape and probably arrive at the menu. The screen stays completely black, however.

If you're using the hardware patch, (or the 2.0 installer, which has the hardware patch included) try this:

Hit Win+r to open the run dialog, Type '%APPDATA%/GOG/DungeonKeeper2/config.ini', (without the ') and underneath the LowZBuffer line, add 'Antialias=0'. (Again, without the ')

That will disable one of the GOG fixes which improves fps on the main menu, but which apparently causes black screen issues for some graphics cards. (Usually those that don't have on board memory.)

I purchased DK2 a few days ago but was also unable to run it. Game would start to load then just go to a black screen. I am confirming that adding 'Antialias=0' to config file fixed my black screen issue as well. (Running Win7 64bit)

To navigate to the file instead of using Run dialog, the file is here: C:/Users/YourNameHere/AppData/Roaming/GoG/DungeonKeeper2

Actually after some minor fiddling come to the conclusion it's the resolution that's doing it... Quickest fix I can perform is right clicking the launch icon and going to compatibility and forcing the screen resolution there.

Wow thanks for posting this. Downloaded today because of the sale, and the fact that GOG had touted it was fixed. I was not happy when I got the black screen, and the safemode that GOG support page advised trying didn't actually launch anything.

This fix works perfectly, so thank you.

Now time to take over the world!

Thanks this fixed my issue on my GTX 750 (Which has onboard memory) where I had a small square in the top left where everything was crammed in.

This post should be stickied as GOG's 'fixes' obviously don't fix a lot of things. Other threads were also vague about what help they offered.
