Just wanted to let everyone know that i've now played level 4 and 5 (way over an hour game time) without a single crash by just changing resolution to 800x600, like wampyras suggested in this thread: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/dungeon_keeper/dk2_game_crashes_when_pressing_the_review_objectives_button/post8
Before this i had random crashes every few minutes like many other ppl here too.

The random crashes are gone and you can also check the objectives by clicking the appropriate button without worrying about crashing your game.

And to the GOG people i will say once again: Test your games and TELL US what settings we should use for stable play BEFORE WE BUY! We don't want to have to do your job! We pay you so we don't have to fiddle around with our old CDs and how to get them installed and running. Thank you!
They do test their games. As a matter a fact I think I read somewhere that they play through the whole thing.

Also welcome to PC gaming. Glad you got it fixed though.
AAAAAAAAH! Never change a running system... i did and i paid for my stupidity! :P

I tested if hardware mode would work in 800x600 and well... it didn't... but since i changed back to software mode (staying in 800x600 of course) i now get my random crashes again and i can't even click on the objectives button anymore. Any ideas what is changed and stays changed when changing from the standard configuration to hardware mode? Must be something in the registry of course, for the visible options in the menu are still the same as before... HELP! :(

EDIT: Did a reinstall which solved the problem, fortunately. Still this is kinda strange...

Atm i can tell i played around 4 hours in 800x600 after reading this suggestion in another post, with all graphic options off, and the game crashed only once, after around 2 hours, so it seems working enough to be playable.
Just its needed to save frequently.
Still the game doesnt keep saved custom keymapping and camera settings, about that anyway maybe it was a bug even in the original relase, not sure about that.
800x600 reduces the crashing greatly, but doesn't eliminate it. It also seems to crash much more often as you get to later levels, even in 800x600. Control-S to save is a great help since then you don't have to use the menu which seems to trigger crashes much more often than anything else.
