Stutter with vsync ? That may mean your card isn't powerful enough.

I don't have it installed right now, but I remember I had to use the older Polymost renderer instead of Polymer because my GPU wasn't powerful enough, which surprised me since it seemed obvious to me that even an nVidia 8800M GTX should give good results. Polymer is (was ?) very demanding...
DOSBox. But not the official one though, that one is outdated to the fucking stone age.
I'd recommend Daum's version:

It's enhanced with lots of good settings.

I second this, the GOG-provided DOSbox is old. However, instead of using a DOS emulator, I suggest sticking to eduke32 and using what they call the software renderer if I remember correctly. You will have better performance with the look and feel of the original DOS version.

If I play again I may use this one instead of Polymer/Polymost since it's the only way to have those hidden messages displayed as intended in the original game (except for DOSbox of course).

Ah yes, that rules out a weak GPU...

Check out Polymost anyway, I suppose it's still included with eduke32.

Any computer from the last 18 years can handle eduke32. What are you talking about really?
Hej klappis !

Did you try eduke32 with the Polymer renderer on 18 y-o hardware ? I guess not :D
