I noticed an updated version of Duke Nukem 3D on my profile/games page yet when checking the forum it is only stated there has been an update for Linux systems. So being that I'm on Windows, do I even need to bother with this ?

Nop. That update was for the Linux client since it is new and therefore people are finding some bugs and such. If there is anything important being updated then the Windows version will surely get updated too :)
