Driftmoon is currently at version 1.002, I wonder where you got that version number from? :)
If the whole OS is shut down, then it's usually not a problem with the game, but a problem with hardware, or a driver. The first thing I would do is check the CPU and GPU temperatures, and check that you have the newest drivers, especially the graphics driver. I once had a faulty power supply that constantly crashed my computer after about two hours running. I'm still not ruling out the possibility that there might be some problem with the game code, but it should always bring up the Driftmoon crash log sender.

And thanks for the report, we'll keep an eye out for this!
It's the numbers GOG are using on their installers. The original is 2.0.0.6 and the latest patch is 2.0.1.8.

Good to know, thanks! I wonder where they get the numbers, they're certainly not the date, nor the magic numbers that I use... :)

Hi thanks for the reply, - My laptop is always updated by the Windows Update so the drivers should be good.
The problem only occurs when I run Driftmoon. I have since found that the Fullscreen Windowed mode (!? what ?) works fine all the time - maybe the Intel video driver is at fault? not sure where I can get a newer version of the driver windows 8 seems to keep itself up to date for all the other drivers.
I will try compatibility mode and let you know.

Update: Real fullscreen compatibility mode does not help so I'll go back to fullscreen windowed

Update for you:
Windows 8 fullscreen - causes OS shutdown after sometime during play
windows 8 fullscreen with XP compatibility mode - causes OS shutdown after playing sometime
NOW Windows 8 fullscreen (windowed) - causes shutdown sometime during play
Also windows 8 with game windowed - causes shutdown sometime during play

I will install this on another computer with windows 7 or windows Home server and update you
Please drop me a mail, (ville@monkkonen.net), and we'll see if there's something we can do. It could simply be a graphics driver that is crashing, but it could be anything else. I'm eager to get to the bottom of this.
