If I could have deleted the Bibles found thru the game and the constant Christian proselytizing I would have given this game an excellent rating. But it ruined it for me, broke the 4th wall of gaming and ruined immersion. I dont understand why they felt a need to bring their religion into a game other than it might have scored points in their church... hey look at us, we made a game that bangs on more doors than we could do on foot. woot. I wonder how it would have been received if the religion was Buddist, Islam, Wiccan or insert any one of a myriad other religion there.

the good:

got back to rpg goodness without all the irritations that other games love to throw in like restricted inventory management, overblown skill trees, complicated crafting. What you were left with was a clean pared down game of exploration, deep character backgrounds, clever dialogue and Easter eggs a plenty. Easy quick saves and fast travel maps were a bonus. I cant remember a game so easy to play, by easy I mean enjoyable. Loved the feather and goldfish mini games and all the exploration to find shinies. good stuff there. The art work was bright and unique.. the final portrait panels were really well done.

the bad:
other then the religious crap not much. the companions didnt really do much imo other than add fun and some extra dps, you couldnt really do much with them strategically but I liked having them and giving them better gear. Top down view took some time to get used to, some collision problems and text overwriting dialogue etc but all in all very clean running.

I am tempted to play thru another time and choose all the 'bad' actions and see what the finale would have been based on the Dark Side, but frankly.. I just cant be bothered to keep slamming the door shut on those bible thumpers for another 4 hrs.

Sometimes people create things that reflect the world as they understand it. Clearly this one isn't for you. One of the world's most popular musicals would also not be for you. Such is life.

Yeah, that's a piss poor excuse for this little bit of bigotry. Anyone who insists on xtianity or any other bit of stone-age nonsense as THE ONE TRUE is annoyingly bigoted, as well as a superstitious moron.

Such is life.

I love it when people talk about stuff they don't know anything about.

"Karma" is not a Christian concept. It is a Hindi Concept. Try harder and read a book next time.

"Constant" means "all the time". I have played through several hours of this game, and I have seen references to magic, gargoyles, "karma", lizard people, and green ooze. Not one reference to Jesus Christ, the Apostles, or any "church".

If there are references to Christianity, I have yet to see them.

And by the way, have you ever played "Ultima: Quest for the avatar"? Uh, yeah that game is loaded with "karmic" references where your choices affect the outcome of the game. That game is one of the most popular role playing games in history and yet...religious references are all over the place.

People that post comments like this, and the "follow up" who spoke of "bigotry" really have no idea what they are talking about.

If you can't play games like this without finding something to be offended by, then you are truly an idiot. You are offended by "do good things, good things happen", but blood and guts...nah, no problem. Just play the damned game and stop with your own proselytizing. This isn't a "Christian" game. It is not made by Billy Graham. There is no hidden message of "be a christian" or something. Grow up, play games because they are fun, and leave your personal politics out of it. People like you ruin video games. I suppose the massive religious and catholic church references in Castlvania are offensive to you too, eh?
Heh. I found the entire New Testament on the house of Seria's parents on Northrop Village. This in the new Enchanted Edition. Previously I remember it was in the monastery.

It's under the chest inside north part of the house.

lol! I'm not even religious but I find that you edgy atheists are more preachy than the actual church goers.

This thread has always bothered me. Kind of weird how a wholesome game is considered proselytizing. Like dudes, it's ok to have wholesome games. The devs are kind people who don't deserve to be persecuted for having a nice game.

Hey! Thanks for the tip. If not for the OP's disparaging comments bringing me here, I never would have found this. You have to really go out of your way to locate it, in game.

Now, alongside with an armor bonus, I also get to enjoy the scriptures of my faith while I explore Driftmoon. Also, thanks to the OP for pointing out something wonderful I didn't even realize about this game. Blessings :)

Actually regarding this, we were forced to remove the New Testament from the game by one of our distributors (not GOG).
The way it's coded forced us to remove it from all versions of the game, so it will be gone in the next update. We were able to leave a note saying it was here, and in a funny way I like that better.

I hope you're well. This is still one of my favorite modern gog releases. Thinking about doing a playthrough again for old time's sake.
