I found that the game would start up, but kept switching the video mode and blanking the screen, over and over. (Same thing happened with the demo I found somewhere.) Anyway the workaround was to disable my second monitor. Hope this helps someone!

Since I'm too lazy to change display settings each time I want to play the game I found another solution for the problem.

Instead of disable the second monitor you can try to disable desktop composition for the game in windows. This fixed it for me (using Win 7 64-bit).
